The expected pay for this position will be $19.89 per hour, in alignment with applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and market data.

The Residential Community Service Officer (CSO) performs overnight security duties for the Evanston campus Residential Hall Security Program and may be reassigned to assist with parking, transportation, public safety, and other services as necessary to support Evanston and Chicago campus safety and security, with or without advanced notice.

• Working environment is typically indoors for the Residence Hall Security Program, but requires willingness and ability to work outdoors in all seasons and temperatures below 32°F and above 90°F.
• Working hours are typically overnight, but special event and other assignment details may vary.
• May be required to work weekends and holidays.
• Assignments may be with or without advanced notice.
• Work location is typically on the Evanston campus; some assignments may be on the Chicago campus.
• The position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and 40 pounds occasionally.

• When assigned to the Residential Hall Security Program, under the general supervision of the CSO Supervisor: monitor residents, visitors, employees, and vendors entering and exiting residence halls to ensure only authorized individuals are provided access; ensure residence hall entrances are locked when required; conduct campus safety checks on foot or in a vehicle; report to the University Communications Center safety and security issues such as broken doors, locks, and windows, suspicious or prohibited activity, hazards, and other issues affecting the safety and security of the residence halls;
  
  maintain close working relationships with residence hall staff and other campus partners; maintain guest logs and activity reports, provide room lockout assistance, and perform other related clerical duties as necessary; maintain professionalism while enforcing safety and security protocols; provide courteous and respectful information and assistance to students and others.
• When assigned to Parking Enforcement Duties, under the general supervision of the Transportation & Parking Director: issue citations, boots, and tow vehicles; perform parking office duties, when assigned, including selling parking permits, entering permit data and violations, and performing related clerical duties; perform vehicle lockouts and jump starts; may assist in traffic direction duties for campus roads and driveways; perform other duties as assigned.
• When assigned to non‑emergency department vehicle operations: inspect vehicles before and after use to identify any damage or maintenance needed; responsible for general condition and cleanliness of assigned vehicle; safely operate vehicle on and off campus, adhering to all traffic laws; transport vehicles for service, repair, equipment installation, and cleaning, when necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: assist with community safety and security efforts such as crime prevention discussions and literature distribution; campus way finding services to community members; sorting and compiling statistical records; performing building and room lockout assistance; conducting fire watch duties; and special event and security assignments.

• High‑school diploma or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides comparable skills.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly and correctly.
• Knowledge of proper use and care of radio, radio equipment, ticket writers, telephone, and computers.
• Ability to handle and prioritize simultaneous events.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license in the state of residency and ability to operate a motor vehicle safely at all times.
• Ability to successfully complete a field training program and the six‑month probationary period.
