TITLE:
Beach Office Staff - 2026
PAY RATE: $16.50/Hour
DEPARTMENT:
Parks and Recreation
PREREQUISITES FOR APPLYING:
Preferred 17+ years of age
Available to work May 23-September 7, 2026
Basic knowledge of standard money handling procedures and customer service experience preferred.
PERQUISITES FOR EMPLOYMENT:
Pass both the Criminal and DCFS background checks
Drug and Alcohol screening
Oral Interview
Up to 6 hours of staff training
HOURS:
Varies, combination of weekdays and weekends up to 40 hrs/week. Must be able to work a minimum of 3 days a week.
General Task Statement:
Responsible for the sales and operations of the Dempster St. Beach Office, Clark St Beach Office, and Dempster St Beach entrances.
Supervision:
Under the direct supervision of the Office Manager and Lakefront Program Coordinator
Essential Function(s) - Task Statements:
* Know and enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to the Evanston Lakefront.
* Process applications for picnic permits, equipment rentals and lessons, beach passes and launch passes.
* Accept payments from customers, such as cash, checks, credit cards, or debit cards in person or over the phone.
* Balance all collected monies at the end of each shift ensuring accuracy.
* Responsible for effective and appropriate communication to patrons.
* Know current program offerings and events and be able to communicate them to patrons.
* Attend staff meetings & training as scheduled by office manager and outdoor program coordinator.
* Maintain a clean and safe office environment.
* Responsible for care and maintenance of office equipment and storage areas.
* Complete written reports such as accident, incident, batch reports and the like on a timely basis.
* Communicate to supervisor(s) if there are problems or issues needing special attention.
* Communicate with Sailing and Aquatic Camp staff regarding rentals, lessons, and camper info.
* Performs other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor.
* Must have the ability to work Memorial Day through Labor Day, including weekends and afternoon/evening shifts once school begins or up until you leave for school.
* Assists with pre- and post-season maintenance-related tasks as assigned.

Read:
Ability to read staff manuals, memoranda, and attendance sheets.
Write:
Ability to complete daily log sheets, accident reports, incident reports, jump reports, first-aid reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, and style.
Speak:
Ability to give verbal direction to subordinates, communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, citizens, and the public as well as other employers; speaking extemporaneously on a variety of subjects.
* Amount of training, either on-the-job or formal education, usually associated with this occupation in addition to the Reasoning, Math and Language abilities detailed above:
* Completed at least 1 year of high school
* Complete all preseason training
* Degree of Physical Demands (strength) usually associated with the essential functions of this classification:
Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to move objects.
