Primary Job Function

The Uinta County School District #1 Substitute Custodian supports the school by maintaining the building and grounds that supports a learning environment that promotes health, attitude, and works to support the success of students academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Cleaning and Maintenance
  • Cleans assigned areas of the building
  • Responsible for keeping buildings clean and orderly. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Picking up and collecting trash
    • Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, scrubbing tables
    • Cleaning restrooms
    • Maintenance and care for building plants
  • Sweep the entries and sidewalks
  • Communicate with Lead Custodian about needs for the cleaning closets
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of the cafeteria. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Cleaning of tables
    • Sweep and scrub floors
    • Removal of trash
    • Set up and take down all tables and chairs
  • Assist cafeteria staff as needed
  • Seasonal deep cleaning during summer and holiday breaks
Safety and Security
  • Support Lead Custodian in maintaining building safety and security, including checking that all doors and windows are closed and locked when the building is not in use
  • Work with knowledge of all chemicals used in the building and proper storage and handling
  • Check all fire extinguishers for compliance
  • Stay acutely aware of any safety concerns within the building or on the grounds
  • Be aware of scheduled regular monthly preventative maintenance
  • Responsible for all snow and ice removal to keep building grounds safe

  • Knowledge of basic cleaning and sanitation procedures
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures
  • Knowledge of safety precautions applicable to trade
  • Knowledge of the application, use and proper storage of chemicals used in performance of the job
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste disposal

  • Skilled at asking questions and understanding multiple points of view
  • Skilled communicator that can convey information clearly and effectively, orally and written
  • Ability to analyze ideas and use logic to determine their strengths and weaknesses

  • Ability to think of original, unusual, or creative ways to solve problems
  • Ability to be aware of others' reactions and understand the possible causes
  • Ability to solve problems by bringing others together to discuss differences
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Regularly required to communicate with others, sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time, push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion
  • May experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue and may interact with unruly children
  • May require driving
