Primary Job FunctionThe Uinta County School District# 1 Lead Custodian supports the school by providing leadership and direction and has an essential role in planning for and maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant, and supporting a learning environment that promotes the health, attitude, and pride of students working to support the success of students academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of experience in custodial work preferred
The primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions within this classification.
Leadership- Responsible for providing direction, feedback, and guidance that will enable crews to perform their job requirements.
- Responsible for assigning work to various team members
- Responsible for inspecting completed work and providing support when needed
- Responsible for providing training and guidance as necessary
- Provide input to the building administrator on overall performance and reliability
- Responsible for the bookkeeping of the custodial budget, including ordering supplies, tracking all purchased products, record keeping for supply projection, ordering and maintaining all equipment, and staying up-to-date on product pricing.
- Serve as a key liaison between building administrators, the Facilities and Maintenance Department, staff, and community
- Responsible for keeping buildings clean and orderly (e.g., picking up and collecting trash, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, scrubbing tables, cleaning restrooms, maintaining building plants, sweeping entries and sidewalks, changing marquee message, keeping cleaning closets stocked and cleaning solution bottles refilled).
- Responsible for assisting with traffic flow and ensuring orange cones are appropriately placed each day.
- Responsible for daily maintenance of the cafeteria (cleaning tables, sweeping and scrubbing floors, removing trash, setting up and taking down tables and chairs, assisting cafeteria staff as needed).
- Responsible for seasonal deep cleaning (summers, holiday breaks).
- Responsible for maintaining building safety and security (checking doors and windows, knowledge of chemicals, checking fire extinguishers, awareness of safety concerns, maintaining preventive maintenance schedule, informing team of emergency valves/phone numbers, participating in crisis management meetings and drills, keeping staff apprised of updates, maintaining PPE, snow and ice removal, checking roof drains for ice build-up).
- Knowledge of hand, power, and diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, codes, and guidelines pertaining to custodial operations.
- Knowledge of all safety precautions applicable to trade.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of the application, use, and proper storage of chemicals used in the performance of the job.
- Knowledge of hazardous waste disposal.
- Skilled active listener.
- Skilled at asking questions and understanding multiple points of view.
- Skilled communicator capable of conveying information clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to analyze ideas and use logic to determine strengths and weaknesses.

- Ability to think of original, unusual, or creative ways to solve problems.
- Ability to be aware of others' reactions and understand possible causes.
- Ability to solve problems by bringing others together to discuss differences.
- Physical demands include regularly communicating with others, sitting or standing and moving around for extended periods, and being able to push, pull, lift, and carry over 75 pounds on occasion.
- Working conditions may involve occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue, and interaction with unruly children.
- Driving requirement: position may require driving.
