Primary Job FunctionThe Uinta County School District #1 Lead Custodian supports the school by providing leadership and direction and has an essential role in planning for and maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant, and supporting a learning environment that promotes the health, attitude, and pride of students working to support the success of students academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of experience in custodial work preferred
The primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions within this classification.
Leadership- Provide direction, feedback, and guidance that will enable crews to perform their job requirements.
- Assign work to various team members.
- Inspect completed work and provide support when needed.
- Provide training and guidance as necessary.
- Provide input to the building administrator on overall performance and reliability.
- Bookkeeping of the custodial budget, including ordering supplies, tracking purchases, record keeping for projection of supplies, ordering and maintaining equipment, staying updated on product pricing, and ensuring district uses best dollars.
- Serve as a key liaison between building administrators, the Facilities and Maintenance Department, staff, and community.
- Keep buildings clean and orderly, including picking up trash and sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, scrubbing tables, and cleaning restrooms.
- Maintain and care for building plants; sweep entries and sidewalks; change marquee messages; keep cleaning closets stocked and solution bottles refilled.
- Assist with traffic flow and ensure orange cones are appropriately placed each day.
- Daily maintenance of cafeteria: cleaning tables, sweeping and scrubbing floors, removing trash, setting up and taking down tables and chairs, assisting cafeteria staff as needed, and performing seasonal deep cleaning during summer and holiday breaks.
- Maintain building safety and security, including checking doors and windows, storing chemicals properly, checking fire extinguisher compliance, and staying aware of safety concerns.
- Keep a schedule of regular monthly preventative maintenance and keep the custodial team aware of emergency shutdown valves and phone numbers.
- Participate in crisis management meetings and emergency drills, keeping staff informed of updates.
- Maintain and update personal protective equipment and handle snow and ice removal, checking roof drains for ice buildup.
- Knowledge of hand, power, and diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, codes, and guidelines pertaining to custodial operations.
- Knowledge of safety precautions and preventive maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of application, use, and proper storage of chemicals and hazardous waste disposal.
- Active listening and communication skills, ability to ask questions, understand diverse viewpoints, and convey information clearly.
- Analytical ability to use logic, reasoning, and synthesis to solve problems and develop creative solutions.
- Regular communication with others; require sitting or standing and moving for extended periods.
- Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry over 75 pounds on occasion.
- Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissue, and interaction with unruly children.
- Driving required.
