Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, General Labor, Building Maintenance
Truck Driver 1 – Full‑time, Permanent – Spokane Veterans Home, Spokane, Washington. This role involves transporting resident Veterans to medical, legal, and social appointments, providing customer service, and performing basic facility maintenance. Shift: 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Telework not available.
Responsibilities- Operate medium to large buses/vans and other vehicles to transport residents to and from appointments and outings.
- Assist residents using wheelchairs, mechanical lifts, tie‑downs, etc.
- Communicate with residents and provide daily customer service.
- Perform general maintenance and repairs of building facilities and equipment (laundry, kitchen, HVAC, etc.).
- Conduct basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry tasks and change belts, filters, grease, and oil bearings.
- Perform grounds work: snow and ice removal, sweep sidewalks, remove leaves.
- Paint and repair damaged walls.
- Operate hand power tools and keep work areas clean.
- Other duties as required.
- Valid Washington state driver’s license.
- Clean driving record with no serious traffic violations.
- Ability to follow directions and interact with residents and coworkers.
- Capacity to work independently.
- Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Proficiency in English (spoken, read, write).
- Demonstrated ability to learn and grow and to meet the needs of others.
- Facility maintenance training and experience.
- Preferred licenses: EL07 Electrical Card, Refrigerant Card, City of Spokane Boiler License, or Gas Heating Mechanic License.
- Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000.
- Compliance with annual Tuberculin Screening per DVA policy 670.000.
- Undergo medical evaluation, fit testing, and use of respiratory protection as required.
- Lift up to 60 lbs. and reach at least 36 inch in height using proper technique.
- Maintain regular attendance and be willing to work as needed.
- Complete required orientation, annual, in‑service, and other training within mandated time frames.
- Adhere to all DVA policies, procedures, Collective Bargaining Agreements, and confidentiality statements.
- For travel positions: carry a valid unrestricted driver’s license and be insured if using a private vehicle for state business.
- Must possess work authorization not requiring employer sponsorship.
