Summary/Objective

In keeping with our organization's goal of improving the lives of the Guests we serve, the Treatment Nurse plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and nursing care to all Guests. The Treatment Nurse is responsible for performing skin treatments for all guests under their care. This position will obtain treatment orders from attending physicians and assist with modifying the treatment regimen in accordance with established policies and procedures.

The Treatment Nurse will provide supervision of staff and will safeguard the health, safety and welfare of all Guests under their care by following applicable laws, regulations, and established nursing policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Consults with Nursing team concerning assessment evaluations and assist in planning and developing the skin care treatment to be performed.
  • Initiates requests for consultation or referral.
  • Examines the Guest and their records and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize when to refer the Guest to a physician for evaluation, supervision or directions.
  • May act as a Unit Nurse when directed.
  • Provides supervision to C.N.A's and all subordinate staff, including checking their work to ensure assignments are completed.
  • Administers medications within the scope of practice of the RN or LPN licensure. Maintain a current report of narcotics received and used.
  • Performs direct contemporaneous charting and monthly evaluations documenting Guest condition and progress.
  • Ensure care plans are followed and assess each Guest’s status in accordance with their care plan.
  • Round with physicians when needed.
  • Be knowledgeable of individual care plans and support the care planning process by reporting specific information and observations of Guests’ needs and behavioral changes.
  • Provide wound care when needed.
  • Complete medical records documenting care provided and other information per nursing policies while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Maintain infection control and standard precautions; follow safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
  • Report hazardous conditions, damaged equipment and supply issues to appropriate persons.
  • Maintain the comfort, privacy and dignity of Guests; interact in a warm, respectful, caring manner.
  • Answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously.
  • Assist with new admissions and re-admissions when directed.
  • Communicate effectively with Guests, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services as directed.
  • Supervisory Responsibility

    This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for Certified Nurse Aides and other personnel assigned.

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a health care setting. Regular walking to various locations around the facility and occasional outdoor weather exposure. May come into contact with patients who have contagious illnesses.

    Physical Demands

    Regularly required to talk and hear. The role is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping. Must be able to lift and move items and patients weighing at least 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

    This position is within a health care facility that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts, holidays and work during inclement weather may be required.

    No travel is expected for this position.

    Required

    Education and Experience
    • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
    • Current State License as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
    • CPR Certified.
    Preferred

    Education and Experience
    • 3 years’ experience as an RN or LPN in a long-term care setting.
    • One year experience as a CNA.
    Additional Eligibility Qualifications
    • Knowledge of Joint Commission procedures.
