Position Summary

The Aquatics Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the aquatics facility, ensuring safe water chemical levels, and maintaining the integrity of pool structures and equipment. The role includes cleaning the facility, developing and executing a timely maintenance schedule, and establishing standard operating procedures.

Required

Education and Experience
  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Efficient, organized, personable, poised, and well‑groomed.
  • Experience in pool, spa, and fountain maintenance including chemical use, chemical level testing, pump and equipment maintenance, pool plumbing, and related items.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Experience
  • Certified Pool Operator.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification.
  • First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Certified Forklift Operator.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be accepted.

Essential Functions
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain swimming pools and aquatic features.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities team to diagnose, repair, and maintain water systems, filter systems, and pumps.
  • Respond to Aquatic Center work orders promptly and efficiently.
  • Ensure pools are safe, clean, operational, and compliant with applicable health codes and statutes.
  • Regularly test pool water quality and pH balance, maintaining a chemical log for records.
  • Log and report equipment faults, facility needs, or water quality problems to the Aquatic Manager.
  • Keep pools free of debris using vacuum cleaners and telescopic pole with net.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of facility shutdowns and maintenance procedures.
  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance plan.
  • Establish standard operating procedures for cleaning and maintenance activities; assist in communication and training of procedures to staff.
  • Operate and inspect tools and equipment, making minor adjustments and repairs.
  • Repair pool lights, address corrosion, cracks, and leaks in tiles, grates, and fountain features.
  • Maintain stainless steel surfaces to prevent rust.
  • Ensure pool lifts, diving boards, and slides are in good working condition; maintain water features with proper chemicals and cleaners.
  • Perform housekeeping duties in and around the Aquatic Center (scrubbing, washing, litter removal, pest control).
  • Safely transport and store hazardous chemicals.
  • Manage equipment checkout, perform checks before and after use, and discard defective equipment per procedures. Inventory supplies and communicate ordering needs to the Aquatic Manager.
  • Complete applicable reports and records.
  • Maintain knowledge of Emergency Disaster Evacuation Plan for the aquatics area as directed.
  • Adhere to a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, and evenings; maintain punctual attendance.
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance.
  • Interface with members and guests on concerns, problems, or other significant issues, providing input and responding to problems.
  • Deliver excellent internal and external customer service; create a positive experience for guests through professional and courteous behavior.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain the Code of Ethics policy established for Kroc Center Hawaii.
  • Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings.
  • Perform other assignments and duties as directed.
