Maintenance Assistant

Preferred Care at Mercer is seeking a positive, dependable, and skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our team!

The Maintenance Assistant will play an important role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of our facility. This position involves assisting with general maintenance and repairs for equipment, systems, and building areas—including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, heating and cooling, and other facility operations—in accordance with state and federal guidelines for healthcare environments.

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs throughout the facility to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for residents and staff.
• Follow instructions and work collaboratively with supervisors and senior maintenance personnel.
• Conduct regular inspections of facility systems and promptly address any maintenance concerns.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of general carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC basics.
• Safely and effectively operate a variety of hand and power tools.
• Maintain organized maintenance records and ensure compliance with all safety regulations.
• Exhibit excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
• Prior experience working in a nursing home, long‑term care, or healthcare facility is preferred. Understanding of infection control practices and sensitivity to working in a resident‑centered environment is essential.
