Grounds Operator

This position provides basic to intermediate operator and mechanical grounds maintenance services. Responsibility includes maintaining facility landscaping, parking areas, roadways, sidewalks, and exterior trash receptacles by operating landscape equipment. Provides grounds maintenance in all seasons, responsible for snow and dirt removal, and performs preventative and corrective maintenance for the facility’s landscape, irrigation systems and grounds equipment. Operates heavy machinery such as mowers, loaders, and assorted power equipment, and handles routine maintenance or repairs.

• Compensation $21.39 - $33.43 hourly wage based on experience and education

  Full Time, 5x8-hour shifts per week, with Variable Shifts (including days and nights)
• Overtime Guaranteed

• $2.00/hr regular shift differential
• Weekend $2.50/hr
• Evening $6.00/hr

• Perform routine maintenance of facility grounds by operating all power and/or hand equipment required to keep lawns, trees, shrubs, and flower beds in a clean, safe, and attractive condition.
• Maintain weed control and remove dead foliage.
• Perform snow and ice removal at all entrances, exits, parking lots, and sidewalks.
• Operate dump truck, snow plows, and gravel distribution.
• Inspect and maintain grounds, sidewalks, breezeways, parking lots, roadways, and facility entrances to ensure they are safe, clean, and attractive.
• Operate sweepers and blowers for parking areas and roadways.
• Routinely empty all trash receptacles and pick up litter throughout the exterior areas of the campus.
• Maintain compactor and landscape debris waste containers.
• Plant and care for flowers, trees, and shrubs during summer months.
• Respond to assigned general maintenance and emergency calls as required.
• Maintain a detailed log of all required facility equipment, record all shift activity.
• May assist in providing security backup.
• Follow safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above functions, report unsafe equipment and attend safety education sessions.

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent, working knowledge and vocational or technical training.
• Valid driver's license and eligibility for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
• Eligibility to obtain a commercial driver's license.
• At least 1 year of diversified grounds-keeping / landscaping / heavy machine operations work experience.
• Ability to operate all required equipment used in landscaping.
• Capacity to function independently and as part of a team environment.
• Ability to work safely and effectively with grounds keeping maintenance equipment.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding related maintenance and operator documents.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Possession of a current commercial driver's license preferred.
