Maintenance Foreman

Position subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement. Salary: $48.17 per hour.

The Maintenance Foremen will be responsible for supervising mechanics performance, planning and assigning work for employees to maximize labor utilization and employee technical competencies, monitoring productivity, ensuring quality and quantity of work output, and the efficiency of the department.

DUTIES
  • Supervise mechanics, investigate issues and problems, provide information concerning employee performance.
  • Work closely with Maintenance Manager to monitor productivity and perform required quality audits on work performed on assigned shift.
  • Provide feedback to the Maintenance Manager on employee performance and technical training needs.
  • Assist with monitoring and meeting standards/goals of analytical targets such as Mean Distance Between Failures, Cost Per Mile, Financial performance and PM Compliance.
  • Plan and assign work for employees to maximize labor utilization and employee technical competencies.
  • Consult with mechanics on diagnosis and procedures for repair and assist with technical questions.
  • Ensure proper utilization of RTA or client software by all assigned personnel.
  • Ensure completion of all RTA or client software supervisory activity by the end of assigned shift.
  • Keep facility/grounds clean and ensure that all personnel work in a safe manner.
  • Ensure compliance with all shift and shop reporting requirements.
  • Supervise shop operations to support service requirements.
  • Work with Maintenance Manager to determine the root cause for poor labor utilization, rework and service interruptions.
  • Ensure that work orders for repairs to vehicles are performed, review past work orders for repairs to vehicles, and assist Maintenance Manager in the review and closure of current work orders.
  • Oversee inspections, complete vehicle safety assessments and inspections to ensure vehicles are safe to operate and meet all requirements.
  • Work with parts personnel to obtain the correct replacement parts.
  • Assist Maintenance Manager with the listing and scheduling of vehicles for preventative maintenance.
  • Monitor the status of down/out‑of‑service equipment and issue a daily report.
  • Have moderate contact with others outside vendors regarding the repair/maintenance of the vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned for the safe and efficient operation of the department.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma. College degree or some college preferred.
  • 3+ years diesel/heavy duty technical experience.
  • 3 years supervisor experience overseeing employees on multiple shifts.
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair the most difficult of all vehicle and equipment service.
  • Must possess 609 and 608 air conditioning certificates and at least five H or T series ASE certifications of which two must consist of T6, T7, H6 or H7.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, verbal, and written skills a must.
  • Must have a valid CDL license.
  • RTA experience a plus.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information/situations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate poise, tact and diplomacy.
  • Must be a team player yet able to work well independently.
  • Must be able to work well with a diverse group of internal and external customers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • 5% of work is accomplished indoors and in air‑conditioned or well‑ventilated facilities.
  • 95% of work is accomplished outside.
  • Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, repetitive hand‑wrist motion, and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling passengers and materials.
  • Must be able to lift or handle up to 100 pounds.
  • Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job.
