Summary of Position

Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia seeks a skilled Maintenance Technician to support the safety, functionality, and day‑to‑day upkeep of a large, multi‑use community facility. This hands‑on role is responsible for the daily maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of the building, serving as the first point of contact for facility issues such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC‑related concerns, and general building repairs.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety‑conscious, and skilled in a variety of building trades. They are comfortable responding to urgent maintenance needs, completing routine and preventive maintenance tasks, and working collaboratively with operations staff and external vendors to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for members, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3–5 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities support, or a related trade
  • Basic plumbing (leaks, clogs, fixture replacement)
  • Basic electrical work (lighting, outlets, switches; non‑licensed work)
  • Carpentry and general repairs (doors, hardware, furniture, wall repair)
  • Painting and patching
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools
  • Ability to respond to urgent maintenance issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Strong attention to safety and ability to follow established procedures
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with staff, vendors, and the public
Preferred
  • Experience working in a community center, school, nonprofit, healthcare, or other public‑use facility
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems and basic troubleshooting (certification not required)
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use maintenance or work‑order software
  • Vocational training, trade school coursework, or relevant certifications
Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, or on‑call shifts as required
Essential Position Duties Maintenance & Repairs
  • Perform general maintenance and repair work including basic plumbing, electrical, lighting, carpentry, painting, and patching.
  • Troubleshoot facility issues and complete repairs in a timely and safe manner.
  • Conduct routine inspections of building systems and equipment to identify maintenance needs.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance tasks to reduce equipment failure and facility downtime.
  • Set up and break down rooms, furniture, and equipment for events or daily operations as needed.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety procedures and use tools and equipment properly.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or building hazards.
  • Assist with emergency maintenance response related to power, water, HVAC, or facility systems.
  • Comply with all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Cleaning & Facility Support
  • Support Facilities Services Associates as needed with basic cleaning and custodial duties.
