Salary

Pay Grade D $28,235 – $42,140 (based on 200 days); may vary depending on experience, verified by West Virginia School System, plus applicable supplements per Mineral County School Salary Schedule.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Provides effective leadership and supervision to school custodians;
  • Implements a system to monitor productivity;
  • Schedules and implements summer cleaning activities;
  • Schedules and implements inclement weather/snow removal activities;
  • Observes the quality of custodial services through observations and walk‑throughs;
  • Maintains open communication among school custodians, school administration, and county supervisors;
  • Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat, clean, and free of litter at all times;
  • Disinfects all water fountains, floors in restrooms, commodes, urinals, and sinks daily;
  • Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year or more frequently if necessary;
  • Performs ground‑keeping duties as assigned;
  • Maintains all floors in a clean and attractive condition, including regular waxing;
  • Secures all windows and doors, turns off all lights (except emergency lights), and arms alarm systems at the end of each day;
  • Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide an appropriate temperature and ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity (Energy Program);
  • Performs minor maintenance repairs and reports major repairs to the principal;
  • Moves furniture or equipment within the buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal;
  • Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non‑school hours when the building is in use and attendance is required by the principal;
  • Conducts a program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair;
  • Displays flags (state and country);
  • Reports safety hazards within building;
  • Services carpeted areas;
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment and informs the head custodian or principal of needs in advance;
  • Complies with county policies;
  • Receives permission to work in excess of 40 hours per week when required by the principal;
  • Corrects minor safety hazards when observed and/or refers major safety hazards to building supervisor;
  • Maintains positive work habits, performs duties efficiently and productively, and maintains and/or upgrades skills;
  • Promotes and maintains positive pupil‑staff‑community relations;
  • Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Mineral County School's Policy 4210;
  • Maintains regular attendance;
  • Performs duties as assigned by immediate supervisor(s).
Qualifications
  • Meet the definition of "Qualifications" in WV Code §18A‑4‑8b and demonstrate competency per WV Code §18A‑4‑8e (state‑approved competency test);
  • Pass criminal background check pursuant to WV Code §18‑5‑15c and/or §18A‑3‑10 as appropriate;
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, and the public;
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations;
  • Ability to interface effectively with other departments, school personnel, and business contacts;
  • Ability to pass written and physical tests related to the position;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community;
  • Ability to perform duties in full compliance with all county requirements and Board of Education policies;
  • Ability to read and comply with labels and safety warnings on cleaning agents and hazardous materials;
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical activity related to custodial duties;
  • Ability to work under minimal or no supervision and be an effective self‑starter;
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions;
  • Complete necessary training and in‑service as required by the county;
  • Ability to solve practical problems in situations with limited standardization;
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
