Full/Part Time: Full Time Regular/Temporary: Regular Schedule: 12‑months Salary Range: Group 6 from $21.32 to $26.78 per hour
Position Summary: Cleaning and maintenance of the district’s buildings and grounds. Organizes and schedules custodial staff, including seasonal maintenance staff and contracted cleaning staff.
ResponsibilitiesEssential | Percent of Time: 60%
Examples of this work include:
- Responsible for a designated area of the building to clean.
- Knowledge of all custodial chemicals and procedures, including ordering and maintaining an adequate inventory of these supplies.
- Day‑to‑day building operation, activity setups, and building security.
- Enter and process work orders through the district’s work‑order system for custodial operations and general maintenance of the facility and grounds.
- Perform mowing and trimming, litter control of grounds, and maintain grounds equipment.
- Remove ice and snow from sidewalks, including the application of ice melt and road sand using snowblowers and sanders; snow removal duties include overnight and extended shifts.
- In the event of unscheduled closures due to weather events and/or other circumstances, this position is considered “essential personnel” for reopening school buildings.
Essential | Percent of Time: 25%
Examples of this work include:
- Communicates regularly with the building administration on building activities.
- Schedules and assigns work to the building custodial staff.
- Conducts building cleanliness checks and communicates employee performance issues to the Custodial Supervisor.
- Assists in writing employee performance evaluations.
- Responsible for knowledge of all district and departmental policies and procedures, including the building asbestos survey, SDS material, the building hazard communication program, fire extinguishers, and AEDs.
Essential | Percent of Time: 10%
Examples of this work include:
- Maintains and, with the Mechanical and Trades Specialist, makes minor repairs to custodial and grounds equipment.
- With appropriate district staff, is responsible for overseeing any winterizing and subsequent reopening of any site facilities where this is necessary.
Secondary | Percent of Time: 5%
Examples of this work include:
- Substitutes for other district custodial employees when needed.
- Participates in general staff meetings.
- Participates in all mandatory training appropriate to the position as required by the district.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum one year of experience in building maintenance or custodial/grounds work.
- Ability to operate a personal computer including the use of a database, spreadsheet, word processor, email and online resources.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety and procedure manuals.
- Experience working with Google Docs.
- Experience working preventative maintenance system software.
- One year of experience supervising personnel.
- Experience writing routine reports and correspondence.
- State‑Issued Divers License or ability to obtain; must have and maintain insurability with the District’s insurance carrier.
Ability to effectively communicate with all customers. Ability to write and keep track of schedules and meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
