SUMMARY:
The Assistant Maintenance position supports the Director of Maintenance in ensuring the safe, efficient operation, repair, and preventive maintenance of district facilities, mechanical systems, and grounds. This role assists with facility maintenance, equipment repairs, safety compliance, and coordination of building systems to maintain safe and functional learning environments.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in building maintenance or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations and be on call as needed.
  • Valid driver's license required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facility & Equipment Maintenance
  • Assist in the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment, boilers, furnaces, chillers, and associated control systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance checks on steam traps, compressors, pumps, motors, rooftop units, and related equipment; complete repairs as needed.
  • Conduct repair work in carpentry, plumbing, heating, cooling, electrical, and painting; recommend outside contractors for major repairs when necessary.
  • Assist in managing the district's computerized building automation and temperature control systems.
  • Assist with maintenance of the backup generator and other critical building systems.
  • Review building work requests and coordinate completion of assigned maintenance projects.
Training, Safety and Compliance
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of spare parts, tools, equipment, supplies, and building access keys.
  • Participate in safety inspections, accident investigations, and safety training initiatives.
  • Communicate "Right to Know," hazardous waste, and asbestos procedures to custodial staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and related safety documentation.
Inventory, Inspection & General Duties
  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, equipment, and supplies; recommend purchases as needed.
  • Inspect roofing systems, door closures, and building equipment regularly and report repair needs.
  • Assist in developing the annual summer maintenance and facilities improvement project list.
  • Support implementation of district energy performance contracting requirements.
Other Responsibilities
  • Serve on call for emergencies as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Maintenance.
