Target Hiring Range: $13.55 - $15.05
The Part‑Time Litter / Park Pavilion Rental Team Member plays a key role in keeping Farmers Branch parks clean, welcoming, and enjoyable for all visitors. This position is responsible for daily litter collection, light maintenance tasks, and providing customer service support for park pavilion rentals, including setup, inspection, and assisting renters as needed. The ideal candidate is reliable, self‑motivated, and enjoys working outdoors in a team‑oriented environment.
ParkCleanliness & Maintenance
Perform daily litter pickup throughout park grounds, creeks, trails, playgrounds, athletic fields, and common areas. Empty trash and replace liners as needed. Conduct general park inspections and report maintenance concerns such as damaged equipment, safety hazards, and restroom issues. Assist with minor cleanup or light tasks such as sweeping, wiping tables, and restocking supplies. Support special events setup and cleanup as assigned.
PavilionRental Support
Prepare pavilion areas for scheduled reservations, including cleaning, table set‑up/arrangement, and inspection. Greet renters on‑site when needed and provide basic information about pavilion use policies. Monitor pavilion rentals to ensure adherence to rules and report issues to supervisory staff. Perform post‑rental inspections, documenting the condition of the pavilion and grounds. Coordinate with Parks and Recreation Department staff regarding scheduling, rental conflicts, and facility needs.
CustomerService & Teamwork
Provide friendly, helpful customer service to park visitors and rental guests. Assist with answering general park‑related questions and directing visitors as needed. Collaborate with full‑time and part‑time team members to maintain high service and cleanliness standards. Maintain clear and timely communication with supervisors regarding tasks, incidents, and park conditions.
Job Requirements- Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines.
- Level of knowledge is equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.
- Prior experience in parks, recreation, facilities, customer service, or maintenance work.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus.
- Familiarity with Farmers Branch parks and recreation facilities.
- One year of experience is preferred.
- Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, drug and alcohol test, and a motor vehicle review.
- This position requires being dependable, punctual and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion.
- Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to deal with the public in a courteous manner. Ability to perform strenuous and routine work.
- Basic ability to recognize the meaning of common two or three syllable words. Basic ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Basic ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or a series of numbers, names, and addresses.
- Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.
- Knowledge of ground maintenance equipment and techniques.
- Skill in operating light equipment.
- Skill in the use of small hand tools and power tools.
May be subject to standby duty outside of normal working hours.
Licenses and CertificatesValid Class 'C' driver's license with good driving record and ability to maintain while employed.
Work EnvironmentWork involves exposure to disagreeable elements and noise. It includes continuous outdoor work with frequent exposure to poor weather conditions. Physical demands include frequent lifting of heavy objects, continuous physical exertion, requiring heavy muscular effort with resulting fatigue of arms, legs, back or sensory facilities. The job requires climbing, kneeling, squats, stoops, bends or walking in confined spaces. Sitting, standing, or walking for long periods of time.
Exposure to dust, chemicals and mechanical hazards. Will be required to independently operate vehicles to perform tasks as needed. Must observe and operate vehicles adhering to traffic laws and following city safety regulations and policies.
