As an Environmental Services Technician I, you will uphold the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety in patient care areas, helping to protect patients, staff, and visitors from cross‑contamination and providing an environment conducive to healing.
Duties and Responsibilities- Perform daily cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and assigned common areas.
- Use proper cleaning principles, chemical handling, and labor‑saving products.
- Follow all safety, risk‑management, and infection‑control guidelines and standards.
- Participate in departmental performance‑improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
- Maintain and organize cleaning cart(s) and supplies.
- Remove waste and transport to appropriate disposal areas, identifying regulated medical, recycling, solid, and hazardous streams.
- Adhere to infection‑prevention practices including hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, and proper donning/doffing of PPE.
- Recognize and uphold patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
- Apply critical‑thinking skills and demonstrate personal accountability.
- Identify and utilize resources to resolve problems and concerns.
- Operate and maintain all EVS tools and equipment.
- Complete specialty tasks such as conference‑room set‑up/dismantle, stairwell and elevator cleaning, and hanging cubicle curtains.
- Assist with onboarding of new Level I technicians.
- Implement the facility’s Service Standards:
Safety, Courtesy, Effectiveness, and Stewardship. - Report all injuries to supervisor and submit a Quantro report immediately after injury.
Constant standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving are required. The position requires the ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and maneuver heavier items with proper technique and equipment. Work may involve frequent interruptions, exposure to infectious diseases, blood and bodily substances, and the use of disinfecting solutions and powered equipment such as vacuums and floor machines. Willingness to work beyond normal hours and to attend continuing education programs is expected.
Required Qualifications- Demonstrated effective use of computers or mobile devices for daily job performance.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Respectfully listens to viewpoints and ideas of others.
- Creates an environment where co‑workers reciprocate.
- Ability to read/write English at a 6th–9th grade level.
- Experience in health‑care support services, environmental services, hospitality, or a related field.
