This position performs a variety of cleaning tasks to provide a safe and clean environment for staff, visitors, and patients. Incumbents maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and freedom from hazards and infections. The role has some autonomy to keep up assigned areas, make independent judgments on needed activities, and may lead specific assignments involving personnel of the same classification. The position requires working around patients, visitors, and staff without causing disruptions, and handling specialized cleaning needs and hazards.
The role is not responsible for providing patient care.
- Sweep, clean, mop, scrub, and dust floors.
- Cleans toilets, basins, showers, bathtubs, patient beds, and wash walls.
- Dusts, cleans, and vacuums furniture, fixtures, doors, and related furnishings using appropriate supplies.
- Operates and maintains electric floor machines, snow blowers, industrial vacuums, carpet shampooing equipment, and upholstery shampooing equipment.
- Cleans, refines, and maintains a variety of floor coverings.
- Cleans patient rooms, beds, waiting areas, and examination tables.
- Labels and removes infectious waste bags and containers.
- Transports custodial supplies and equipment to and from storage and work areas.
- Replaces sharps containers, transports trash and refuse, removes empty boxes, and organizes closets.
- Ability to perform the essential functions outlined above.
- Effective human relations and communication skills.
- Ability to use basic electronic devices in the course of daily work.
Required: Entry level position. May require a valid Utah driver’s license depending on department.
Preferred: Six (6) months of related experience.
Working Conditions and Physical DemandsIntermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting. May require lifting up to 50 pounds, light work such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, use of a 6‑foot step ladder, standing for sustained periods, walking long distances, and exposure to chemical hazards.
