Custodian I (10 months)

Location: Cumberland County Schools, 322 Douglas Byrd High School – Fayetteville, North Carolina

• Must obtain and maintain a CDL Bus license and drive a bus when called upon

• Perform recurring tasks under direct supervision in accordance with established cleaning schedules
• Adapt to changes in work methods or procedures as indicated by a supervisor, with work reviewed by personal inspection to ensure completion and cleanliness standards
• Carry out lighter manual tasks such as stripping, sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, spray buffing, dusting, and rearranging furniture in school buildings
• Wash windows, window sills, woodwork; vacuum and spot clean carpets and walls; clean light fixtures and other interior surfaces
• Clean restrooms, replenish tissue, towel, and soap, replace light bulbs and fluorescent rubes, empty waste receptacles, and remove containers from buildings
• Maintain the building free of scattered paper and litter that detracts from appearance and sanitation
• Report any damages or repair needs to supervisor
• Perform related work such as cleaning sidewalks, grounds, grass cutting, walkways, building, fence, access way edging, and caring for shrubbery on school campus
• Attend seminars and workshops scheduled by the Custodial Supervisors to improve job efficiency and skills
• Complete all required training to improve performance of duties
• Obtain and maintain a CDL bus license, complete pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, and drive a bus when called upon while maintaining proficiency and safety compliance
• Maintain discipline and report undisciplined students to school administration; discharge and transport only authorized students at authorized stops
• Comply with local and state traffic regulations and observe all mandatory safety regulations; report delays and accidents
• Clean interior of the bus
• Serve as a team player and role model for other employees, demonstrating commitment to continuous quality improvement and core values such as caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer focus, and fairness
• Perform other duties and accept responsibilities as assigned

Perform medium/heavy lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 25 pounds constantly. Climb ladders and travel through required crawlspaces.

• Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required
• Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License
• Applicants must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) when requested for purposes of driving a school bus

Position Type: Part‑Time

Salary: $1,625 to $2,300.63 per month
