SECONDARY SCHOOL CUSTODIAN
- Hours per Day: 8 hours per day $26.55 to $30.69 per hour DOE

Perform a wide variety of custodial, building and grounds maintenance and cleaning tasks. Assume responsibility for a specific area of building and grounds. Report any preventative maintenance tasks that need to be done to the Head Custodian.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Complete work assignments daily and help other workers as necessary.
- Know and execute the building security procedures as needed.
- Support the maintenance of safe and healthy work/play conditions throughout the campus.
- Utilize appropriate energy conservation measures.
- Observe and follow safety and health regulations and District guidelines.
- Maintain excellent communication with the principal or immediate supervisor.
- Establish and maintain a cooperative and effective working relationship with staff and students.
- Give assistance to and work harmoniously with community groups as needed.
- Clean all assigned classrooms.
- Vacuum, dust, mop and spot mop when necessary.
- Empty and clean wastebaskets.
- Clean chalkboards/whiteboards, trays and erasers when needed.
- Dust all horizontal surfaces, vents and univents.
- Clean walls and around doors and light switches when necessary.
- Dust lockers, beams, etc., regularly.
- Clean and disinfect fixtures, floors and partitions daily.
- Check and replenish supplies as needed.
- Clean and disinfect shower rooms daily.
- Clean lockers as required.
- Dust mop and wet mop daily and remove scuff marks from walls.
- Clean behind bleachers and clean drinking fountains.
- Perform required inspections of bleachers, playground equipment, and play areas, and complete required inspection forms.
- Empty garbage.
- Clean lunchroom after lunch, including wiping down tables.
- Set up and take down cafeteria tables.
- Clean kitchen area.
- Secure all outside doors and windows at designated times.
- Keep the Head Custodian or Night Lead informed of needed supplies.
- Monitor persons entering the building for night activities; i.e., open and secure designated areas as needed.
- Clean and maintain around outside of the buildings, including flowerbeds, gutters, drains, etc.
- Wash windows.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 6 months of custodial experience.
- Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis.
- Criminal background clearance.
- Excellent safety record.
- School board policies and procedures.
- Computer, phone, and e‑mail skills at a basic level.
- Organize and perform job responsibilities efficiently and independently with or without close supervision and able to pay strict attention to detail.
- Maintain a good work attendance record, be punctual, and follow District procedures for reporting all absences.
- Speak, read and follow written or verbal communications, and take instructions from supervisor.
- Practice effective safety and security within individual work routines.
- Develop and maintain positive customer relations with staff and service providers.
- Work collaboratively with District staff and promote teamwork with co‑workers.
- Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct including the requirements of confidentiality.
- Relate effectively with parents, staff, students and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community.
- Organize time, materials, and equipment to work in an efficient, thorough manner.
