Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Overview
The Maintenance Supervisor ensures multiple equipment types within the Regional Distribution Center (RDC) are fully operational. The role supervises a high‑performing team that analyzes, troubleshoots, repairs equipment, and performs preventive maintenance tasks. The supervisor works with the Maintenance Manager and contractors to coordinate new construction and repair work, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
Responsibilities- Achieve or exceed key performance indicators, safety goals, and budget targets.
- Fix equipment breakdowns to minimize impact on distribution center performance.
- Prioritize work in accordance with business priorities: sorter preventive maintenance (PM) requests and repairs, yard truck PMs and repairs, and projects with highest priorities.
- Assist associates with HR‑related issues including attendance, pay, benefits, job changes, voluntary terminations, I‑9 verification, unemployment claims, and workplace accommodations.
- Communicate clear expectations and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Monitor and manage associate performance to ensure accurate and scheduled task execution.
- Mentor and build relationships, record planned encounters, and complete annual reviews.
- Hold associates accountable to expected behaviors and performance levels.
- Monitor staffing needs for shifts, adjust work, assign mechanics to jobs, and supervise their work.
- Implement projects by due date.
- Provide cross‑training for mechanics in multiple crafts: electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, automotive, welding, etc.
- Perform work in a safe manner.
- Complete 100% of preventive maintenance (PMs) as scheduled by shift end.
- Communicate effectively about business objectives or current issues.
- Provide developmental opportunities and prepare associates for promotion.
- Discuss and resolve issues among associates.
- Participate in the hiring process by initiating job requisitions and interviewing candidates.
- Ensure associates receive proper training.
- Teach leadership by example; build team spirit and engagement.
- Mentor mechanics; prepare senior mechanics for supervisory role.
- Train team to use 7I system.
- Complete and enter maintenance documentation in the 7I system.
- Conduct shift briefing, including safety topics.
- Prepare shift turnover documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience repairing/maintaining conveyors, electro‑pneumatic PLC‑controlled systems with photo‑eye detectors, electrical systems (440 V or less), hydraulic and pneumatic systems, forklifts, reach trucks, floor sweepers, yard trucks, automatic systems, HVAC, basic plumbing, fabrication, or welding.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical drawings.
- Experience using troubleshooting processes to resolve problems.
- Required certifications for performing supervisory electrical work in an industrial facility, if applicable by law.
- Experience with power equipment (forklift, reach truck, yard truck).
- Experience troubleshooting and performing simple fixes to PLC programming.
- Leadership experience with direct‑report responsibility.
- Experience mentoring and coaching others.
- Experience monitoring work quality of others.
- Experience managing budgets or contributing to budget planning.
- Experience communicating with leadership at all organizational levels.
