The General Maintenance Technician position is responsible for performing maintenance and repair functions on program owned/leased facilities, equipment and grounds. General maintenance and repair will include plumbing, heating/air conditioning systems, carpentry, painting, grounds/lawn care, hot water boilers, and electrical and mechanical equipment. Will be required to perform some custodial duties.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
1. Responsible for the performance of preventive maintenance and repair of water pipes, plumbing fixtures, gas/water valves and related equipment.
2. Removes and replaces commercial plumbing fixtures and pipes in accordance with building/construction code procedures.
3. Reads and follows blueprints and schematics. Uses a variety of building materials to perform minor repairs on buildings.
4. Coordinates the replacement and repair of windows and doors.
5. Able to make minor wall/trim and paint repairs. Also able to coordinate painting and/or any other general contractor work within the district.
6. Works with custodians to ensure that preventive maintenance schedules are developed and followed, for equipment, vehicles, machinery, heating and air conditioning equipment.
7. Coordinates with the Custodial and Maintenance Supervisors for general maintenance of lawns, grounds, sidewalks, outdoor learning centers and parking lots.
8. Coordinates with outside contractors for the implementation of a variety of maintenance and repair activities in the district.
9. Responsible for ensuring lighting, public address systems, bells and related electrical and low voltage equipment is operable.
10. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
Other Duties:
1. Sees that the American flag is flown each workday and is displayed in an appropriate manner throughout the district. Flies, displays and stores the American flag in accordance with recommended governmental standards.
2. Communicates with the Custodial Maintenance Supervisor on cost projections and plans for future maintenance activities to facilitate budget development.
3. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Courses taken through adult/community education programs, community college, college, or certification of workshop completion in at least five of the following areas preferred:
Plumbing, hot water boilers, electrical, basic carpentry/construction, pneumatic controls, refrigeration, pesticides or practices dealing with asbestos/safety. Valid Michigan driver's license required.
Experience:
Three (3) years of successful building/grounds maintenance experience required.
Skills/Other:
Demonstrated competence in building care and maintenance of facilities required. Demonstrated competence in repair and maintenance of heating and cooling equipment, buildings, plumbing, hot water boilers, lawn and grounds care, electrical and mechanical repair required. Ability to accept supervision direction, follow oral and written instructions and implement maintenance plans in accordance with program policies and procedures. Ability to utilize district technology and maintain proficiency, as required skills sets change with technology and/or the needs of the program.
Demonstrated dependability, trustworthiness, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a variety of custodial/maintenance-related assignments in order to meet the changing needs of the program required. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to work flexible workday and workweek in order to meet the changing needs of the program.
Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.
