Position: Porter-Sterile Serv 11a-730p EOWE

Job Title

Performs a variety of routine and repetitive tasks such as cleaning various assigned work areas and items; storing and delivering equipment and supplies; stocking shelves, and storerooms; operating equipment; and picking up dirty instrument trays and equipment from patient and utility rooms. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvements activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.

Works under the supervision of the department head or designee who observes and checks work for conformance with established standards.

Responsibilities

Cleans and sanitizes a variety of assigned equipment and instruments.

Stores/stocks, inventories, and delivers e.g., supplies and equipment including sterile and non-sterile goods.

Operates various equipment and machinery which may include maintaining, operating, cleaning and sanitizing IV modules, commodes and various pumps e.g. Makes minor repairs.

Runs errands such as picking up and delivering forms, lists, and reports.

Moves a variety of items such as furniture and furnishings and trash containers. Collects cardboard and takes it to the compactor.

Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react competently, and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups served. Washing and sanitizing Sterile Services items and storing them in designated areas.

Picks up soiled instrument trays, commodes, and pumps from utility rooms.

Uses cleaning solutions according to the manufacturer's directions while monitoring sanitizer levels of solutions and utilizing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Performs other related duties as required and dictated by supervision. Utilizes new improvements and/or technology that relate to job assignment.

Qualifications

High school graduate and/or GED equivalent.
Some familiarity with custodial and cleaning methods.
Ability to read and write sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
Ability to learn the methods, practices, techniques and procedures peculiar to the position.
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
Ability to work harmoniously with fellow workers and others.
Ability and willingness to work in a manner that will not endanger the safety of one's self, other persons and equipment.
Sufficient strength to perform moderate to heavy lifting, carrying and routine custodial tasks.
