Custodian I, Classified, 1.0 FTE (Full Time) - Siuslaw High School Job Description

Salary Schedule is based on the school year. New hires typically begin at Step 1 on the Salary Schedule.

TITLE: Custodian I
SUPERVISOR: Maintenance Supervisor and Building Principals
JOB TYPE: Classified Position, 1.0 FTE, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM Shift, 8 hours per day, Monday-Friday at Siuslaw High School
SUMMARYPerforms skilled and semi‑skilled work in several trades in the maintenance, construction and repair of buildings, equipment and grounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- Minimum of one year of experience in work related to the care of schools or public buildings.
- Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing and polishing concrete, linoleum, tile, and wood floors.
- Vacuuming and shampooing rugs and carpets.
- Cleaning and dusting walls, furniture, woodwork and other equipment.
- Washing, scrubbing, and disinfecting rest rooms.
- Moving and rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture and other equipment.
- Replacing light bulbs as necessary.
- Maintaining equipment used in the course of work.
- Reporting safety, sanitary and fire hazards.
- Securing locks on doors and windows of assigned buildings.
- Allows access to appropriate areas of the building; secures building after evening use.
- Locking down the building in the event of an emergency (during school hours).
- Setting up, taking down, and arranging chairs, tables and related equipment for evening activities.
- May prepare supply orders.
- Temporarily performing duties of the Custodian II, in the event of an emergency or absence.
- Directing visitors and safeguarding school property.
- Maintaining regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
- He/she must be able to understand computers in order to communicate by email on a daily basis.
- Must perform other tasks assigned by the building principal and maintenance supervisor as needed.
- First Aid Training and CPR Certification
- Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screening.
- High degree of physical stamina and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs. and frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. throughout the day.
- Safety equipment is available to be used.
- Employee will be on feet during shift, with bending, lifting, standing, twisting, walking, kneeling, and climbing ladders and performing repetitive work.
- Exposure to noise, heat, cold, hot and cold surfaces, sharp and moving equipment.
- Requires coordination and dexterity.
- May include solvent or cleaning smells and human body waste clean‑up.
- Work environment is primarily in a school building environment, and includes work performed outdoors.
- Applicant must be compliant with the Oregon Health Authority's rules related to the COVID‑19 vaccination.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Maintains satisfactory attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to organize and maintain efficient time schedule.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students and the public.
- Good communication, organization and computer skills.
- Strong work ethic.
- Emotional and physical stamina to perform duties as required by the designated task, except for temporary disability.
- Effective oral/written communication skills in order to work collaboratively with a variety of school personnel, as well as parents of students with disabilities and/or unique needs.
This is a classified 12‑month position.
SALARYWill be determined by terms of the current negotiated agreement. The amount due under the contract will be pro‑rated monthly in accordance with district policy.
