The purpose of the class is to monitor and screen all waste and recyclable materials delivered by residents to County convenience centers; to assist the public in placing materials in proper containers; to monitor container volume; and to maintain site appearance and safety. The class works according to procedures under close supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Ensuring the timely opening and closing of assigned convenience center; locking building and gates at the end of the day.
- Monitoring and screening all waste and recyclable materials delivered by residents to County convenience centers.
- Directing traffic at drop‑off sites.
- Ensuring trash compactor is operational and ready to receive waste from County residents.
- Assisting the public in placing materials in proper containers; determining if waste is acceptable; transferring recyclables from small to large bins; and properly sorting them.
- Monitoring containers to ensure adequate space for continued disposal; calling in end‑of‑day waste and recyclable container volumes as required for scheduling the next day’s collections; calling in collection requests as needed.
- Removing any and all contamination from containers.
- Making sure containers are emptied when full.
- Cleaning up spills in the oil collection section.
- Maintaining convenience center and surrounding area in a clean, orderly manner; picking up trash and debris as necessary; cleaning drop pans; and hosing down areas to eliminate spills and odors.
- Maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date records of daily activities.
- Answering telephones; providing information and/or assistance to callers.
- Cleaning and maintaining assigned equipment and tools.
- Providing training and leadership to workers as assigned.
- Assisting with other Solid Waste Department functions as assigned.
- Performing all duties in accordance with all County policies and procedures, standards of quality and safety, and all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Performing other related job duties as assigned.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED. - Related work experience:
At least six (6) months. - Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
Work is performed in a safe and secure environment that may periodically have unpredictable requirements or demands.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURSPart‑time position; typical work 52 hours per pay period Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.;
Saturday hours 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the core work hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Employees must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays during emergencies or as requested. This is a safety‑sensitive position and employees holding this position have the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.
This position is subject to random drug testing.
