Dishwasher / Kitchen Assistant
Position Summary / Function:
The primary function of the Dietary Assistant position is the preparation of meals, delivering and retrieving trays, storing food, and cleaning the kitchen area. This role supports the facility’s mission, values, quality standards, and commitment to compassionate service, accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.

- Assist with meal preparation, including cooking.
- Assist staff with preparation of food trays.
- Assist with cooking and setting up the hot bar and salad bar.
- Operate the cashier station and accurately process customer transactions.
- Welcome customers from the community into Rose Hall dining and provide courteous, professional service.
- Assist staff with delivering food trays to patient care areas.
- Assist staff with retrieving food trays from patient care areas.
- Ensure all dishes have been cleaned and put away in accordance with state regulations.
- Ensure all foods are tightly sealed and properly labeled before placing them in the refrigerator.
- Ensure all countertops are cleaned.
- Clean equipment as assigned.
- Follow the posted cleaning list, including dining room cleaning responsibilities.
- Perform miscellaneous duties assigned within the kitchen.
- Unload trucks when they arrive; break boxes down and discard them in the proper place.
- Assume other duties as necessary.
- Communicate clearly with fellow employees and supervisors.
- Ensure the protection of patient and employee information by following HIPAA-HITECH guidelines.
- Maintain the integrity of all forms of patient information, including electronic personal health information.
- Access only the minimum necessary information required to complete assigned job duties.
- Be flexible and organized, and work effectively and professionally under stress.
- Professionally represent the organization with credibility, dignity, excellence, and trust.
- Demonstrate and communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility as the face of Hospice.
- Must have some cooking skills.
- Must be responsible and accept supervision.
- Must be able to take initiative and manage time wisely.
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing and work cooperatively with team members and staff.
- Must be able to work successfully with varied groups of people and perform each essential duty satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Work is performed in a commercial kitchen and patient care support environment. The Dietary Assistant must be available to work the assigned schedule which includes weekends, holidays, or additional hours as business needs require and as permitted by applicable wage and hour laws.

PHYSICAL DEMANDSMay be required to climb steps, stoop, bend, or lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to communicate compassionately with patients, families, employees, and the general public.
