Essential Functions- Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing/buffing machines.
- Use ladders to dust, wash walls and ceilings, and polish light fixtures.
- Wash and replace blinds.
- Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment to clean areas.
- Remove stains from rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
- Perform seasonal tasks such as sweeping walks, raking leaves, cutting grass, and removing snow.
- Apply protection to walls, floors, and equipment and later remove the protective coating.
- Empty waste baskets and replace liners; dust and clean tops of office furniture; vacuum all carpeting; spot‑clean soiled carpet areas.
- Clean glass on lobby doors and mop tile areas.
- Maintain lunchroom and break areas by emptying waste baskets, wiping tables, chairs, vending machines, and appliances, and cleaning sinks and counters.
- Sanitize restrooms by cleaning and disinfecting toilets, basins, urinals, and floors, and refilling dispensers.
- Dust overhead vents, blinds, polish wood furniture, dust high partitions, and clean interior partition glass.
- Keep the janitor’s closet neat and orderly and maintain equipment such as vacuums.
- Attend periodic training and safety meetings as required.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Six months of experience in commercial facilities and building janitorial work desired.
- Knowledge of basic janitorial duties and responsibilities helpful.
- Good listening and verbal communication skills.
- English speaking and understanding ability required for some positions.
- Maintain a neat appearance and wear a uniform at some worksites.
- Punctuality and ability to understand and anticipate client needs.
- Must attend periodic training and safety meetings.
The position is performed in small‑to‑large office environments, fast‑paced with moderate noise levels. Employees are regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, cleaning products, and noise. The setting includes both normal office type environments and shop environments.
Physical Demands- Stand, walk, sit, and/or handle objects for long periods.
- Climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Lift or move up to 40 pounds of office and facilities equipment, cleaning products, tools, and ladders.
- Operate cleaning equipment safely.
- Maintain close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus vision as required.
