Job Description

Public Works is currently hiring for several essential positions that play a critical role in maintaining the Town's infrastructure. To help fill these important vacancies, the Town has approved both a Sign-On Incentive Program and an Employee Referral Incentive Program.

Sign-On Incentive – $1,500

The $1,500 Sign-On Incentive is available for newly hired Public Works employees (excluding Administrative Staff).

Key details:

  • Paid on the employee's first paycheck following hire.
  • Limited to one sign-on incentive per employee while the program is in effect.
  • Employees who leave Town employment within 90 days must repay $750.
  • Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.

Employee Referral Incentive – $1,500

For eligible Public Works positions (excluding Administrative Staff), employees may receive:

  • $500 when the referred employee is hired.
  • $1,000 after the referred employee successfully completes six months of employment.
  • $1,500 total incentive.

Additional information:

  • Applicants must identify the referring employee on their employment application for the referral to qualify.
  • Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.
Examples of Duties

• Assists in the general maintenance and operation of wastewater treatment plant equipment including pumps, valves, electric motors, filters, electrical switch gear, and meters.
• Collects water and wastewater samples as directed.
• Loads and unloads supplies and chemicals from trucks, tankers, and other transport containers.
• Assists operators and mechanics in the cleaning and repair of tanks, basins, reservoirs, and associated equipment.
• Informs supervisor of all problems, deviations, hazards, unfamiliar situations, and all work activities.
• Operates various light to heavy construction equipment and tools not to include any that require a CDL.
• Performs general housekeeping of building interiors, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, hosing, vacuuming, emptying refuse containers, cleaning windows, cleaning countertops and other hard surfaces, and cleaning restrooms.
• Performs general housekeeping of building exteriors, tanks, and basins including brushing, hosing, and spraying surfaces to remove growth buildup of aquatic vegetation and insect nests.
• Performs lawn care functions to include mowing, weed trimming, lawn watering, distribution of light herbicides and pesticides, tree trimming, and trash collection at the treatment plant, lift stations, and water pumping stations.
• Assists with other special projects and tasks as directed.
• Adheres to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures.
• Assists other coworkers as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
• Must have a valid state-issued driver's license, and the driving record must comply with Town policy. Physical Abilities The physical abilities described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
* • Must be able to talk, read, see, walk, hear, and follow oral and written directives.
• Must also have good hand-eye and foot coordination to operate and repair equipment and vehicles.
• Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities to include, exerting up to 100 lbs. of pressure, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy supplies and equipment several times a day; able to shovel, crawl, bend, kneel, and dig holes for several hours per day; climb on and off equipment; and operate vibrating equipment.
• Must be able to work indoors, underground, and outdoors, including in confined spaces such as pipes, culverts, manholes, and trenches. Must also be able to work on various terrains-level, slippery, sloping, unstable, or muddy-and under constant noise.
• Must tolerate adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather (rain, sleet, snow, heat, sun exposure), mechanical and electrical hazards, fumes, odors, dust/mist, chemical…
