is currently recruiting a Senior Maintenance Worker to join the Operations Division. This non-exempt position is based in the Folsom Sign Shop and is represented by Local 39 IUOE. This position offers a work schedule of 4/10s or 9/80, and must be willing to participate in the on-call rotation after successfully completing probation.
IDEAL CANDIDATEThis ideal candidate has experience with leading, assisting, and scheduling staff who perform specialized sign shop and field maintenance activities, including fabrication, installation, repair, and replacement of regulatory, warning, guide, street name, parking, and other traffic signs.
Under the general supervision from the Streets Operations Supervisor, the Senior Maintenance Worker classification will lead, assist, and schedule staff in general maintenance activities, including routine cleaning and maintenance of grounds, parks, aquatic center, and/or other facilities; semi-skilled construction and maintenance of streets and roadways; specialized maintenance including installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic signs, irrigation systems; collection of residential and commercial refuse and recyclables from the City driving heavy equipment requiring a Class A or B license on a continuous basis, and fertilization and/or pesticide spraying.
Incumbents may oversee, monitor, and/or direct the work of lower level personnel.
- Performs a wide range of maintenance and repair duties including parks, parkways, landscaped corridors, medians, swimming pools, aquatic center(s), splash pads, water features, sports fields, public restrooms, streets, roadways, signs, drainage systems, bridges and open spaces, depending on assigned department.
- Assist crew members in the use of hand and power tools.
- Oversee general and specialized maintenance work performed by lower level personnel.
- Plan, oversee, and coordinate set up and break down of special events.
- Respond to customer complaints and determine customers' needs.
- Monitor, maintain, and purchases materials, tools, parts, and equipment as needed and assigned.
- Purchase tools and supplies from local sources.
- Maintain various records, reports, and correspondence.
- Train new employees in operation of various equipment.
- May apply herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers.
- Install pipe and plumbing fixtures.
- Act as contact person when working with various crews.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

Public Works - Operations- Coordinate sign shop schedules, work assignments, and priorities.
- Identify required sign fabrication, installation, repair, and replacement tasks and assign responsibilities to staff.
- Ensure sign fabrication and installation complies with CA MUTCD, City standards, and applicable regulations.
- Estimate and maintain adequate inventory of sign materials, sheeting, vinyl, posts, hardware, and supplies.
