Position Summary

This position is responsible for the inspection and analysis of equipment, diagnosing malfunctions, and the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment and systems.

Systems include electrical, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, plumbing, locks and security doors, fire control, and fuel storage and delivery.

The role also involves maintenance of vehicles, motors, kitchen appliances, motorized equipment, and operation of equipment such as welding torches, lifts, and generators.

Groundskeeping equipment such as plow trucks, snow blowers, and mowers are operated as needed.

Blueprints and schematics are used to make repairs to the facility’s structure and fixtures.

Supervision and training of inmates in mechanical maintenance and repair assignments is provided, maintaining security in the work environment. Maintenance records are kept, needed parts and equipment are researched, and purchase selections are submitted.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule range 03-13 with a starting pay of $25.57 per hour. Pay is set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Employees at Green Bay Correctional Institution may receive supplemental add‑on pay of $5.00 per hour for all hours worked (excluding leave time).

Job Details

This position is not eligible for remote work. The anticipated schedule is day‑time hours Monday through Friday. Specifics can be discussed  position is FLSA Non‑Exempt and is not anticipated to travel regularly.

For some positions, applicants must possess a valid driver's license and may be required to meet State of Wisconsin fleet requirements. Employees in those positions will be required to maintain a valid driver's license and eligibility to drive a fleet vehicle.

The position requires the physical ability to perform manual labor, including climbing, bending, crawling, and lifting, and will sometimes require working in cold, hot, or dusty environments.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (citizen or licensed non‑immigrant, lawful permanent resident, or alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

Background Checks and Eligibility

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre‑employment drug screens. Any applicant offered employment in a position that requires a drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
