Are you a night owl? The 2nd Shift Maintenance Laborer assists the Mechanics with light maintenance duties and maintains a clean work area. This position works outside year round. Essential Functions- Assist Mechanics:
Support Mechanics in performing light maintenance tasks, such as inspections, repairs, lubrication, and other basic maintenance duties under their guidance. - Basic Mechanical Ability:
Possess a basic understanding of mechanical principles and the ability to work in and around the maintenance shop, including familiarity with common tools, equipment, and safety practices. - Facility Maintenance:
Perform light maintenance tasks around the facility, including the yard and office areas. - Versatility and Adaptability:
Be willing to handle a variety of duties ranging from routine maintenance to more skillful tasks. - Proficient Use of Hand Tools:
Demonstrate proficiency in using a variety of hand tools commonly used for maintenance tasks, including proper selection, handling, and maintenance. - Safety Awareness:
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure personal safety and the safety of others. - Equipment Assistance:
Aid mechanics when needed, such as retrieving tools, organizing materials, or supporting tasks related to equipment repairs or maintenance. - Learning and Training:
Actively participate in safety training programs and on-the-job learning opportunities.
- Perform general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, or dusting and general upkeep duties around the facility.
- Perform facility maintenance duties such as mowing, cutting, trimming, and spraying trees, grass, shrubs, and other vegetation. Also perform duties such as shoveling of snow, dirt, and gravel.
- Assist in inventory management and upkeep.
- Collaborate effectively with Mechanics and other team members to accomplish maintenance tasks and ensure smooth operations.
Skills and Abilities
- Good verbal and written communication skills to understand instructions, applicable safety regulations, and to maintain records.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions independently or as part of a team.
- Problem‑solving ability: address problems as they arise.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and responsibly.
- Basic computer skills.
- Basic 9th‑grade math, language, and reading skills.
Education and Experience /Training
- One to two years of related experience (Preferred).
- High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred).
- Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Able to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Able to complete physically demanding work.
- Good hand‑eye‑foot coordination and sense of balance.
- Able to kneel, crouch, or crawl in awkward spaces to repair equipment.
- Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or maneuver into tight spaces.
- Must perform physical activities requiring the use of arms and legs and moving the entire body, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, and stooping.
- Ability to bend, stretch, push, pull, and reach to clean and service machinery.
- Must traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
- Prolonged periods standing, walking, and repetitive movements over long periods.
- Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Must be able to work on components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
- Excellent depth perception and reaction time.
- Must see details at close range.
- Must wear protective eye/ear equipment as required.
- Manual dexterity required to operate a variety of hand tools.
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability for precision work.
- Maintain single‑task focus and situational awareness.
- Must work in various weather conditions and tolerate typical noises, smells, and environmental factors associated with the plant.
- May work in extreme heat and cold.
