The Church and School of St Peter in Forest Lake, MN has an opening for a Full Time Custodian to join the Parish Maintenance Team starting May 1st. Part time fractional hours may be available before this date to assist with special events and vacation coverage. This role is eligible for full benefits including paid time off, health and dental coverage, 403(b) plan, HSA, and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms.
This position is our Monday - Friday day time shift, with scheduled hours from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm or 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Some flexibility is required to cover vacations and special Parish events. Employment in and by the Roman Catholic Church (hereinafter Church) is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church.
Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church, the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and the Church of Saint Peter in Forest Lake, such that it can embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal. This position does not require that an employee be an active participating Catholic, however it is expected that the employee will have an understanding of the rich tradition and doctrine of the Church and will uphold and enforce the teachings of the Church.
To clean and maintain Parish buildings and surrounding grounds, in addition to supporting Parish and School events through room setup and teardowns.
Job Specific Responsibilities- Following assigned cleaning protocols and schedule established by supervisor. This includes but is not limited to vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, shampooing carpets, cleaning bathrooms, operating all floor machines, and cleaning and sanitizing other rooms as needed.
- Maintaining trash and recycling removal for all areas of the facility, including picking up debris on the Parish grounds.
- Must be able to use all floor equipment in a competent and safe manner. This includes but is not limited to auto floor scrubbers, burnishers, vacuums, carpet extractors, wet-dry vacuums, pressure washers, and lawn equipment.
- Washing windows and cleaning glass doors.
- Performing lawn care which includes mowing, weeding landscaped areas and general upkeep of the grounds. This may include some snow removal of sidewalks as well as putting down applications of salt and sand on sidewalks during the winter season as required.
- When assigned, set up rooms prior to scheduled meetings; including setup of tables, chairs, and required equipment. When present, respond to additional meeting setup requirements requested by meeting participants. Put away chairs, tables, and any other furniture and equipment as assigned. Clean up before/after special events per schedule.
- Restocking supplies in custodial area closets, bathrooms, and main storage area.
- Check for burned out light bulbs, replace when capable of doing so.
- Being alert for intruders, locking and unlocking buildings per daily schedule.
- Keeping cleaning supplies well stocked in assigned areas, and notifying supervisor when supplies need replenishing.
- Keeping bathrooms clean and fully stocked with appropriate supplies.
- Reading and following the directions on all products used.
- Keep safety in mind, i.e., use gloves, goggles, back support, “Caution Wet Floor” signs.
- Always be on the look out for maintenance needs and perform those tasks where appropriate; report unmet needs to supervisor.
- Work with team members, volunteers, performing other duties as assigned.
