Due to a pending retirement, the Church and School of St Peter in Forest Lake, MN has an opening for a full time Maintenance Supervisor to join the Parish staff. This role is an hourly non-exempt position subject to overtime after 40 hours a week. The standard work week is Monday - Friday, 8 hours per shift. Some flexibility is required to cover vacations and special Parish events.

This role is also eligible for full benefits including paid time off, health and dental coverage, 403(b) plan, HSA, and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms.

Employment in and by the Roman Catholic Church (hereinafter Church) is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church, the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and the Church of Saint Peter in Forest Lake, such that it can embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal.

This position does not require that an employee be an active participating Catholic, however it is expected that the employee will have an understanding of the rich tradition and doctrine of the Church and will uphold and enforce the teachings of the Church.

Objective:

To oversee and supervise all maintenance aspects of the facilities and grounds, including all mechanical systems and physical structures while adhering to all governmental regulations ensuring a clean, sanitary, safe and welcoming environment for the Parish.

Job Specific Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Repair of Equipment, Building Systems and Structures
  • Have an understanding of facility mechanical systems (such as heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems).
  • Be able to do basic repairs on the building and equipment including electrical, plumbing, small engine, carpentry, painting and general mechanical repairs.
  • Maintain and service all mechanical systems including plumbing systems, electrical systems, HVAC, and general repair work, contracting out what cannot be done in house.
  • Ensure that all repairs are completed in a timely manner.
  • Establish preventative maintenance programs for all system and structures.
  • Ensure the maintenance and operation of fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
  • Replace light bulbs, batteries, furnace filters, and other disposable items as needed.
  • See to it that building structures such as windows, doors, flooring, and roofs are repaired or replaced as needed, contracting all work out that cannot be accomplished internally.
  • Ensure that all tools and equipment are returned to their proper place upon completion of associated work activity.
  • Ensure that facilities and systems are in compliance with governmental and Archdiocesan protocols.
Supervision of Projects and working with Sub-Contractors
  • In coordination with Parish Business Administrator and the Pastor, direct and oversee major and minor renovation projects, building additions, or changes in the parish grounds
  • Develop written statements of work as needed for any work to be subcontracted out and review with the Parish Business Administrator. Be clear about any licenses needed. These statements will be used as a basis for any bidding needed for work.
  • Identify list of qualified vendors in applicable areas.
  • Solicit competitive price quotes when appropriate; review with Parish Business Administrator before proceeding.
  • Ensure that all contracts are reviewed and approved by the Parish Business Administrator before work is begun by any sub-contractor.
  • Supervise or manage sub-contractor during the performance of tasks.
  • Ensure that all preliminary permits, surveys, licenses, and certificates of insurance have been obtained prior to beginning work.
  • Ensure that all work and/or repairs have been completed in a satisfactory manner before approving payment to vendors.
Supervision of Maintenance Staff
  • Supervise all full-time and part-time employees as well as maintenance volunteers.
  • Train and instruct maintenance staff in general custodial tasks.
