General Description:

Full-time high school teaching position.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Employees are responsible for obtaining/retaining the most current statutory and administrative rule requirements for their position.

Dual Credit Certification Requirement:
Appointment to this position is conditional upon the candidate meeting all eligibility and credentialing requirements to teach dual credit courses, as established by Triton College or an equivalent Illinois Community College Board-approved community college or higher education institution. Certification must be obtained prior to or within a timeframe determined by the employing institution and maintained throughout employment.

* Education/Training:
Minimum of a Master's degree in biology, one of the biological sciences, or biology education or Medical Doctor degree, Osteopathic Doctor degree, Doctor in Chiropractic degree(accepted to teach Anatomy & Physiology courses); or Master's in Biology Education +18 hours of graduate work in the specific biology discipline.

* Licensure:
Valid Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) for grades 9-12

* Endorsement:
Any of the following:

* Science - Biology (Grades 9-12)

* Knowledge/Abilities/

Ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.

* Doctorate Degree

* College teaching experience;
Medical Doctor, Doctor in Chiropractic, Doctoral degree in biology, one of the biological sciences, or biology education.

* Previous high school teaching experience

* Certified ESL High School or Bilingual Certification

* Bilingual Endorsement (grades 9-12)

* ESL Endorsement (grades 9-12)

* Special Education Endorsement (LBS1)

* Bilingual (English/Spanish)

* Multiple subject area endorsements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities *:

Instructional Competencies

* Teach to prescribed outcomes and goals to lead to positive student outcomes

* Utilize best practices of standards-based learning and the gradual release of responsibility instructional model

* Design and implement coherent and rigorous instruction to improve student achievement ensuring prerequisite, grade level, and extension skills that are aligned to priority standards

* Ensure that students understand the learning goals and the relevance of instructional outcomes

* Involve students in learning using research-based differentiation practices and educational technology

* Use appropriate school support and resource materials toward improvement in students' social, emotional, academic, and behavioral health outcomes

* Provide appropriate remedial and/or enrichment material

* Implement reteaching and review opportunities and interventions for students

* Differentiate for students with special needs, language needs, or different learning styles.

* Promote student success through clear expectations for learning and coursework, timely responses, and regular feedback

* Assign and evaluate student work that leads to mastery of standards

* Track, monitor, and post student progress on a weekly basis using the district SIS system

* Communicate regularly with parents, students, counselors, and support staff and document using the district student information system (SIS) system

* Be clear in explanations and directions to ensure student understanding

* Speak clearly, audibly, and fluently to ensure student understanding
