Description:
Proviso Township High Schools District 209 is seeking Summer School Counselors for Summer 2026. Summer School Counselors will support students and the school teams to ensure student needs are met.
Summer School Counselors must have the required endorsements for this position. They may opt for one or both summer sessions and must commit to attend professional development prior to the beginning of the summer session. Additional dates may be outlined by the Summer School Administrator to ensure a smooth summer school program.

Summer School Dates:
Session 1
Monday, June 8 through Thursday, June 25, 2026
Session 2
Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 16, 2026
Schedule:
Classes meet Monday through Thursday. No class on Fridays.
Session goes from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
Counselors report from 8:45 am to 2:15 pm
Counselor Responsibilities:
* Assist with scheduling students for the appropriate summer school courses
* Assist with making sure the appropriate courses are built in the summer school Master Schedule
* Consult with and serve as a resource for students, staff, and parents
* Track student's academic success while enrolled in summer school
* Assist with scheduling incoming 9th grade or transfer students for the upcoming school year.
* Other counseling duties as assigned
Planning and Preparation:
* Demonstrating knowledge of counseling theory and techniques.
* Demonstrating knowledge of child and adolescent development.
* Establishing goals for the counseling program appropriate to the setting and the students served.
* Demonstrating knowledge of state and federal regulations and resources, both within and beyond the school and district.
* Planning the counseling program, integrated with the regular school program, and including crisis prevention, intervention, and response.
* Developing a plan to evaluate and communicate findings of the counseling program.

* Creating an environment of respect and rapport.
* Establishing a culture for productive communication.
* Managing routines and procedures.
* Establishing standards of conduct and contributing to the culture for positive student behavior and achievement throughout the school.
* Organizing physical space conducive to productive work with students.
Delivery of Service:
* Assessing student needs.
* Assisting students and teachers in the formulation of academic, personal/social, and career plans, based on knowledge of student needs.
* Using counseling techniques, in individual and classroom programs.
* Brokering resources to meet needs.
* Demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness.
Professional Responsibilities:
* Reflecting on practice.
* Maintaining records and submitting them in a timely fashion.
* Communicating with families.
* Participating in a professional community.
* Engaging in professional development.
* Showing professionalism, including integrity, advocacy, and maintaining confidentiality.
* Work collaboratively with other educational personnel.
* Implement recommendations made in the evaluation and supervisory process.
