General Description:
To develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive school-based health program, and deliver services (as set forth below and mandated by law and Board of Education policy) to students to enhance students' health, wellness, and educational performance. All duties are to be performed in accordance with professional standards of school nursing practice, applicable State law and regulations, and Board of Education policies and administrative procedures (as may be amended from time to time).
Required Qualifications:
Employees are responsible for obtaining/retaining the most current statutory and administrative rule requirements for their position.
* Education/Training:
Baccalaureate Degree or higher
* Licensure:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
* Valid Illinois Hearing and Vision Screening Certification
* Valid Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certification
* Endorsement: PEL-CSN (Professional Educator License-Certified School Nurse)
* Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of prior professional nursing experience, preferably pediatric, adolescent, community or mental health nursing, and health program management.
* Knowledge/Abilities/
Skills:
Ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities *:
Coordination
* Participates in the development, implementation, and overseeing a comprehensive school-based health program.
* Helps to provide a safe school environment so students can concentrate on learning.
* Collects and analyzes epidemiological and other District health information and makes recommendations based upon statistical data provided by the District.
* Assists in the development of an accident/injury prevention program to facilitate safety within the school.
* Determines the impact of students' contagious illnesses and acts to prevent the spread of communicable disease in the school setting.
* Assists in the assessment of the health and safety needs of the District and/or building in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, implementing the Bloodborne Pathogen Control Plan and other interventions as indicated.
* Follows a communicable disease prevention and control program in cooperation with local and State public health agencies.
* Manages District and/or building health records in accordance with the Illinois School Student Records Act, providing efficient retrieval of information and other related archival responsibilities.
* Participates in Child Find programs and establishes and manages health screening programs according to State requirements and rules.
* Participates in the development of health-related Board of Education policies and administrative procedures in compliance with State law and current/best health practices.
