Special Education Teacher

Full-time high school teaching position. Minimum required qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree or meeting minimum requirements to be eligible for an Educator License with Stipulations (ESL) Endorsement Licensure:
Valid Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) for grades 9-12 Endorsement:
Learning Behavior Specialist I (Grades 9-12). Desired qualifications include a Master's Degree and/or Doctorate Degree, previous high school teaching experience, certified ESL, High School or Bilingual Certification, Bilingual Endorsement (grades 9-12), ESL Endorsement (grades 9-12), and Bilingual (English/Spanish) Multiple subject area endorsements.

Instructional competencies include teaching to prescribed outcomes and goals, utilizing best practices of standards-based learning, designing and implementing coherent and rigorous instruction, involving students in learning, using research-based differentiation practices and educational technology, providing remedial and enrichment material, differentiating for students with special needs, language needs, or different learning styles, promoting student success through clear expectations, and tracking, monitoring, and posting student progress.

Classroom management competencies include developing, communicating, and enforcing a set of classroom rules, policies, procedures, and expectations, monitoring and correcting student behavior, responding to behavioral infractions, using effective methods to manage student behavior and classroom materials, reinforcing/rewarding appropriate social and academic behavior, ensuring appropriate use and care of required classroom materials and equipment, interacting with students in ways that are respectful and friendly, and reflecting an understanding of cultural differences.

Professionally related competencies include engaging in ongoing collaboration with colleagues, participating in review and updating of curricular programs, adhering to Board of Education policies and administrative procedures, exemplifying the district's mission and vision, supporting progress of achieving goals outlined in the Strategic Plan, cooperating with other educational personnel and administration, modeling and enforcing classroom and school rules, policies, and procedures, reflecting on professional practice, making necessary adjustments to ensure student success, attending each workday, and recording final course grades.
