Art Club Sponsor
The Art Club Sponsor is responsible for organizing, supervising, and promoting the Art Club in alignment with the District's mission, policies, and student development goals. The Sponsor provides students with opportunities to explore artistic interests, develop creative skills, collaborate with peers, and participate in school and community activities. The Sponsor serves as a mentor, leader, and liaison among students, staff, administration, and families to provide a safe, inclusive, engaging, and meaningful extracurricular experience.
Qualifications Required Experience or Training:
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational and time-management skills, demonstrated leadership skills, ability to work collaboratively with students and staff in a school setting, ability and willingness to fulfill all responsibilities associated with the position.
Desired Experience or Training:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), Substitute Teaching License, retired educator status, or educator-related certification/endorsement (e.g., School Counselor, School Psychologist, or School Social Worker), knowledge of or experience with visual arts, art education, or related creative activities, previous experience sponsoring, supervising, or supporting school-based student activities, previous experience working with high school students.
Position Responsibilities:
Student Leadership and Program Development:
Organize and facilitate regular Art Club meetings, activities, programs, exhibitions, and events. Guide students in planning and implementing meaningful, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate art activities. Provide opportunities for students to explore various artistic techniques, media, and forms of creative expression. Encourage student creativity, artistic development, leadership, teamwork, shared decision-making, and responsibility. Promote student involvement and foster respectful and positive relationships among students and adults.
Promote student self-esteem and personal growth through positive reinforcement and recognition of effort and achievement. Encourage students to maintain an appropriate balance between academic responsibilities and extracurricular participation. Use student feedback, participation information, and program outcomes to continuously improve Art Club activities.
Supervision and Student Safety:
Provide active and effective supervision during all Art Club meetings, events, exhibitions, field trips, and other sponsored activities. Maintain student safety and ensure compliance with District policies, school rules, and student conduct expectations. Clearly communicate and consistently enforce expectations regarding attendance, behavior, eligibility, and participation. Ensure the safe and appropriate use, storage, and care of art supplies, materials, tools, and equipment.
Enforce applicable academic eligibility requirements in accordance with District policy and IHSA requirements, when applicable. Ensure all off-campus activities receive required District approval and that permission forms, transportation arrangements, and other required documentation are completed. Fulfill all mandated reporter responsibilities and comply with applicable Illinois law, training requirements, and Board policy.
Communication and
Collaboration:
Maintain timely and professional communication with students, staff, administration, parents/guardians, and other appropriate stakeholders regarding club activities and expectations. Use District-approved communication platforms and comply with District guidelines governing appropriate staff-student communication. Publicize Art Club meetings, exhibitions, events, and initiatives in a timely and appropriate manner using District-approved communication platforms. Collaborate professionally with co-sponsors, teachers, staff, administrators, and District departments to support Art Club activities and the broader school community.
Coordinate facility use, scheduling, transportation, displays, exhibitions, and other logistical needs with appropriate school and District personnel. Attend required sponsor meetings and school events, including Sponsor Meetings, Activity Fairs, Open Houses, and other activities as assigned.
Administrative and Professional Responsibilities:
Manage the Art Club's budget and financial records in accordance with District procedures governing purchases, reimbursements, fundraising, and student activity funds. Submit required documentation, reports, permission forms, financial records, and compliance materials accurately and within established deadlines. Complete a year-end summary documenting club activities, participation, goals, and outcomes. Participate in the annual post-activity evaluation conducted by the Director of Athletics and Activities, Activities Facilitator, Building Principal, or designee.
