Position Requirements

Work Location: Forest Park. The position requires the ability to work overtime and may involve varying start and end times, as well as weekend work, depending on business needs. Hours are 4:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Purpose

Maintenance Mechanic maintains production and facility equipment to ensure plant production goals and building requirements are met. The role involves working with mechanical devices such as gears, sprockets, chains, sheaves, belts, brakes, clutches, couplings and alignment, bearings, lubrication, hydraulics and pneumatics. Basic experience with electrical components—240‑480v motors, wiring, switches, sensors, AC and DC circuits—is also required.

Ways You Will Make a Difference
  • Disassemble, inspect, reassemble, troubleshoot, repair and replace malfunctioning parts or equipment (motors, switches, sensors, input / output boards, controllers, gears, sprockets, chains, knives, etc.) using test equipment and meters such as VOM, megger, amp probe and PC.
  • Clean, lubricate and adjust guides, flap tuckers, sealing jaws, sensors, and timing for process systems of packaging equipment to improve efficiency, quality, or operation.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance procedures as per schedule.
  • Install change parts (pockets, flap tuckers, film folding shoulders, etc.) on production machinery to run a different size, shape or product.
  • Read blueprints, diagrams, programs / ladder logic and machinery manuals to diagnose problems, identify parts, and learn proper equipment operation.
  • Install new equipment.
  • Actively seek problems in the assignment area and correct them before they become critical with high supervision.
  • Communicate equipment conditions by completing maintenance records, transferring knowledge of conditions to incoming mechanics at shift change, and informing the supervisor of significant problems.
  • Display cooperation by working closely with production personnel.
  • Improve work‑related skills by actively pursuing outside schooling or plant‑provided programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Experiences That Will Support Your Success
  • 3 years of prior experience as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic or completion of a 2‑year Technical Degree in a maintenance field such as Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Maintenance or a related area AND 1 year of prior experience as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic.
  • Experience must include diagnostic troubleshooting, repairing and replacing defective parts, adjusting machinery, and modifying units to meet proper operating specifications.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment is preferred.
