Duties
- Perform maintenance and repair on a variety of equipment and vehicles used at the range.
- Preheats metals prior to cutting or welding to prevent uneven breakage.
- Assist fellow coworkers with troubleshooting and repairing equipment used on the firing range.
- Operate a variety of motorized vehicles such as a forklift or tractor.
- Ability to tow vehicles that have become inoperable at duty location.
- Utilize laws and regulations to operate a variety of motorized vehicles.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent is required to maintain certification in accordance with Department of Transportation Regulations/Laws for a Class A Commercial Driver's License within 180 days of employment.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is approved for Environmental Differential Pay and the incumbent is eligible for environmental differential pay when assigned to perform duties in an area approved for environmental differential pay.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 4 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element):
Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. I am able to perform the common duties of an Engineering Equipment Operator including operating a variety of heavy equipment to push, pull, pile, or load materials such as sand, gravel, earth, or refuse; digging trenches, clearing brush, tree stumps, and rocks; and grading surfaces on generally flat, rolling or simple terrain.
- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- PHYSICAL EFFORTS:
The work requires heavy physical effort, good hand, eye, foot coordination, good depth perception; and mental alertness in the operation of various types of equipment, controls, and attachements. The employee must be able to exert physical effort for prolonged periods of time such as standing, walking, reaching, bending, turning and sitting, working in awkward positions and considerable strains to the body while accomplishing work in rough terrain flat, uneven surfaces and other field surfaces. - WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in all types of weather, often in and open driver's seat or platform, on steep hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. Incumbent is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. Must wear and/or use protective equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulations and SOPs.

Additional informationPosition may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 4 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term Appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term Appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
