ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $54,037. (Salaries are paid biweekly)
ANNUAL ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $65,000. (Salaries are paid biweekly)

Job Summary

The City of Fort Collins Operations Team is hiring for a Technician II, Energy Services (HVAC) position. Work involves maintaining our building heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC) equipment for roughly 100 City buildings. This involves planning, maintenance, diagnostics, testing, installation, repairs & replacement, and coordinating outside contractors for these similar items. This position collaborates with other technicians including HVAC, BRM, aquatics, electrical, and controls.

This position works with our facility project managers to collaborate on major renovations and new construction projects to incorporate the most efficient systems possible and find ways to conserve energy and achieve the City's climate action goals.

Qualified applicants will have at least 3-5 years of experience in a commercial HVAC environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other requirements include:

  • EPA Certification to handle refrigerants
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • First Aid/CPR certification

In addition, this position is required to maintain a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) certification; employment is contingent upon the successful completion of the CJIS Security Awareness training and certifying assessment and initiation of the fingerprinting/ background check/drug test within the first thirty (30) days of employment. The CJIS course with exam takes one day and is paid for by the State of Colorado.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
  • Educates customers on energy usage, and performs diagnostic testing on structural/mechanical systems
  • Collects, creates and enters data on detailed work orders.
  • Calibrates controls, replaces bearings and shafts, rewires equipment, fabricates and installs sheet metal, and retrofits new components to existing equipment.
