Purposes
The Custodian provides a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.

- Work cooperatively with supervisors, co‑workers, and students.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Perform responsibilities without close supervision.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
- Meet attendance standards to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Maintain a generally positive attitude.
Functions and Responsibilities
Universal USD 234 Classified Standards
- Support the philosophy and mission of USD 234 and the value of education.
- Comply with the privacy rights of students.
- Safeguard confidential and/or sensitive information.
Specific Responsibilities
- Operate all equipment safely and appropriately.
- Ensure that classrooms, student gathering areas, restrooms, corridors and office areas are cleaned daily according to district specifications.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
- Gather and empty trash.
- Service, clean, or supply restrooms.
- Report damaged school property immediately to the Principal and the Facility Director.
- Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by building Principal or the Facility Director.
Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions
- Level 4 – Heavy Work
- Exerting 20‑50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10‑25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
- Adapt to a fast‑paced, multi‑faceted work environment.
- Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, crawling and turning.
- Climbing and balancing required.
- Lifting, moving and carrying items up to 50 lbs.
- Trunk Strength – support part of the body repeatedly or continuously without fatigue.
- Extent Flexibility – bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
- Manual Dexterity – quickly move one or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
- Oral Comprehension – listen to and understand spoken information.
- Static Strength – exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
- Near Vision – see details at close range within a few feet.
- Oral Expression – communicate clearly in speaking.
- Work indoors and outdoors.
- Indoors, Environmentally Controlled – work in controlled conditions.
- Spend time using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Spend time bending or twisting the body.
- Wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats.
- Spend time making repetitive motions.
- Face‑to‑face discussions with individuals or teams.
- Work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
- Stand or walk for a full 8‑hour shift.
