SENIOR MAINTENANCE PERSON - SOLID WASTE FLEET MAINTENANCE *

Sr Maintenance Person

The incumbent, under the guidance of the Fleet and Grounds Maintenance Manager, shall be responsible for general maintenance and cleaning duties of the Sanitation Department, Landfill and surrounding grounds. Duties are to be performed while the Departments are in full operation, and the employee must cooperate with other members so as to minimize inconvenience. Duties are routine, but require some independent judgment as to methods and equipment to be used.

Employee may be required to work unusual hours. Employee will plan and arrange work under the general supervision of the Fleet and Grounds Maintenance Manager, referring only unusual situations to the person in that position.

All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times.

• Performs general maintenance or minor repairs on building structures in a timely manner.
• Performs general maintenance or minor repairs on building structures and installed equipment such as replacing light bulbs, air filters, ceiling tiles, etc.
• Performs minor plumbing or electrical repairs as needed.
• Performs minor construction or remodeling such as interior/exterior painting.
• Operates equipment necessary to perform essential job functions including automotive, lawn maintenance, custodial and other small equipment as required.
• Moving and replacing light furniture as needed (spot clean as necessary).
• Fill in tire ruts made by city vehicles, repair or replace mail boxes damaged by city vehicles, clean fluid spills created by city vehicles on city streets.
• Pulls an electric magnet behind a work truck in order to pick up nails and loose debris left on the road and picks up trash left on and beside the roadway.
• Clean up spills and spot clean soil and finger marks from painted and washable surfaces.
• Maintains exterior of facility to include mowing, trimming shrubbery, removing weeds from beds and planters, daily checks exterior for trash and rubbish, disposing of it as appropriate.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Regular attendance and timeliness is required.

Other duties may be assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of one year experience in the general maintenance of landscaping, maintaining flower beds, and lawn equipment is preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Possess a thorough knowledge of various types of equipment and methods to be used to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the work and necessary safety precautions is required. Organization skills and close attention to details are required to successfully perform this job. Communication skills in both oral and written form, as well as effective public relation and working relation skills are also required.
