SalaryClassification 9 $ 27.35 – 28.19 per hour in accordance with the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional $0.58/hour in lieu of benefits and 6% vacation pay included with each pay period. The Christmas closure period (December 25 – January
1) is unpaid time.
Northern Lights College is seeking a relief on-call Cafeteria Cook to support food services at the Fort St. John campus. Working independently, the Cook prepares a variety of meals, assists with catered events, and ensures compliance with Food Safe standards.
Key duties include short order cooking, food preparation, and baking, supporting catering and menu planning, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment. This position plays an important role in delivering healthy, appealing, and high-quality food options. This role is a great opportunity for someone passionate about food service and contributing to a positive campus experience.
HoursRelief shifts occur weekdays between 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
NoteThe cafeteria is closed June – August and December 25 – January 1 annually.
QualificationsRequired
- Valid and current Food Safe certification.
- Experience with short order cooking including operation of grill, broiler, deep fryer, ovens, toaster, etc.
- Experience preparing nutritious meals, snacks, and baked goods.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Professional Cook Training – Level 3.
- Experience using locally or regionally sourced ingredients.
