Orange County Sanitation District is currently looking to fill the role of a Maintenance Superintendent.

Under general direction, supervises, assigns, plans, organizes, and provides direction and oversight for multiple program activities and operations within the Operations and Maintenance Department including responsibility for all maintenance activities at one of OC San's two treatment plants; accomplishes work objectives through lower-level supervisory staff; coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies, and the general public; provides highly responsible and complex staff assistance to management;

and performs duties as assigned. Specifically, this Maintenance Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing key maintenance and asset management functions across OC San's treatment plants, collection systems, and facilities. This position will provide leadership and oversight for Reliability Maintenance, Facilities and other work groups as necessary, while supporting the integration of Engineering and Maintenance activities through the computerized maintenance management system.

The Superintendent will also play a critical supportive role in commissioning, shutdown, startup, and turnover of construction projects affecting treatment plant and collection system assets, helping ensure new and modified assets are effectively transitioned into operation and maintenance. This individual will accomplish work objectives through first-line supervisory staff and will coordinate activities with other Maintenance Superintendents, Chief Plant Operators, Engineering, Construction, Operations, other OC San divisions, contractors, and outside agencies to support asset reliability, operational readiness, and the successful delivery and integration of small and capital projects.

The Maintenance Superintendent will work closely with first-line supervisory staff and will have overall responsibility for maintenance activities that span both treatment plants and may support the Collection Systems maintenance. This position is expected to provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Maintenance Manager and coordinate maintenance efforts with the Asset Engineers and the Engineering Divisions. Additionally, the Maintenance Superintendent will develop Scopes of Work (SOW) for complex repairs and replacements, work with Purchasing to publish and evaluate bids, and develop agenda reports as necessary.

Key Performance Objectives:

  • Assume leadership responsibility for assigned maintenance work groups, services and activities to ensure 24-hour safe, compliant and efficient operations of reclamation plants and collection systems for both routine, abnormal and emergency situations.
  • Oversee the data accuracy in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Facilitate the implementation of maintenance best practices and the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and track performance.
  • Optimize predictive monitoring technologies and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices across all maintenance disciplines to improve asset reliability, reduce unplanned downtime, and enhance maintenance effectiveness.
  • Participate in the development and administration of assigned program budget and forecast funds for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Provide field support through staff for operations and construction activities.
  • Ensure that Maintenance staff attend all required safety, technical, and general training.
  • Ensure that OC San safety standards are met by all Maintenance staff.
  • Ensure that OC San policies, procedures, and core values are adhered to by all Maintenance staff.
  • Coordinate assigned activities with other divisions and departments in support of O&M.
  • Provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to management.
