The Clinical Interventionist at Phoenix Academy is a school social worker, school counselor (must be an LCPC) or school psychologist who will work under the Life Space Crisis and Circle of Courage model of therapeutic intervention. S/he will utilize small group, individual and co-teaching strategies to assist students in social emotional learning. S/he will write IEP components and develop functional behavior plans with the school team.

S/he will engage with students, families and outside agencies to develop a network of communication and support for all students in the program. S/he will respond to crisis intervention with staff to assist students in using de-escalation techniques founded in Life Space Crisis Intervention and Circle of Courage. S/he will create a tiered system of social emotional support to be used within the school.

Phoenix Academy is housed outside of the home districts in an alternative site under the direction of the Leyden Area Special Education Cooperative. All students within the program are in high school (9th-12th grade) or middle school (6th-8th) and need more support than is available at their home districts due to their severe emotional needs. The Clinical Interventionist in this program embraces a unique learning environment for students that is highly specialized.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

• Utilize Life Space Crisis Intervention for all social-emotional dysregulation.
• Coaching and Co-teaching within academic pathway to grow students' use of Circle of Courage and Life Space Crisis Intervention in all aspects of their program.
• Provide individual strategies for students to utilize that are specific to their social-emotional needs.
• Outreach to families and outside agencies based on students social-emotional needs.
• Create functional behavior analysis and behavior intervention plans for students.
• Conduct special education case study components and individualized education plans.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None

QUALIFICATION & SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

• Illinois PEL with an endorsement for School Psychologist, Social Worker or School Counselor
• Minimum Master's degree from an accredited institution.
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of special education and specialty area (Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities).
• Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective therapeutic interventions for students with disabilities.
• Understands how to incorporate social-emotional strategies within a classroom.
• Ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration, and the general public.
• Perform all other related work delegated tasks and/or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift, move, and/or support up to 50 pounds. The position can require some degree of interaction with students who have difficulty controlling their emotions.
