Controls Engineer

LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to develop PLC control systems, perform hands‑on testing and root cause analysis, develop technical documentation and collaborate with other teams to ensure optimum system performance. The ideal candidate will have 3–7 years of PLC programming experience and strong project management skills. This role is fully on‑site in Franklin Park, IL and the anticipated salary for this role is between $80,000 - $120,000

• Develop and maintain PLC control systems
• Manage and maintain version control and change management for PLC programs
• Review and develop electrical schematics, including electrical wiring diagrams and control panel layouts
• Use project management platform to track project status and communicate updates to other teams
• Provide hands‑on support in manufacturing, testing, and troubleshooting
• Lead corrective actions
• Implement load‑matching, capacity control, and energy‑optimization algorithms
• Assist with root cause analysis on control or system failures
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including functional specifications, user manuals, I/O lists, network diagrams, and flow diagram
• Collaborate with new product design engineers to optimize control behavior
• Perform PID tuning and testing for all programs
• Test PLC/embedded control software
• Implement communication protocols for BMS integration

• 3+ years of PLC programming experience required
• Familiarity with Functional Block Diagrams, Structured Text, and Ladder Logic
• Exceptional attention to detail
