Job DescriptionThe Tool Maker A will be responsible for planning, constructing, modifying, repairing, and troubleshooting tooling, fixtures, jigs, prototypes, and specialty components used throughout manufacturing operations. This position requires advanced machining capabilities, blueprint interpretation, tight tolerance work, and the ability to operate both manual and CNC equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Planning machining assignments and determining proper manufacturing sequences.
- Building, modifying, and repairing tools, fixtures, jigs, prototypes, and special components.
- Performing complex manual machining operations with close tolerances.
- Operating manual milling machines and manual lathes.
- Setting up and operating CNC and EDM equipment.
- Performing threading, grinding, fitting, lapping, heat treating, and tempering operations.
- Conducting tooling tryouts and resolving performance‑related issues.
- Troubleshooting tooling problems and recommending process improvements.
- Collaborating with Engineering to resolve design concerns and improve manufacturability.
- Developing engineering models from drawings, sketches, and specifications.
- Utilizing precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy.
- Assisting with the training and development of junior tool makers.
- Maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.

- Minimum 4 years of manual machining experience.
- Extensive manual milling machine experience.
- Extensive manual lathe experience, including threading operations.
- Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
- Proficiency using precision measuring instruments.
- Experience holding close and critical tolerances.
- Basic trigonometry and shop mathematics skills.
- Experience troubleshooting and modifying tooling.
- Ability to perform complex tool building and repair assignments.
- Ability to pass the Tool Maker A written examination.
- Ability to pass the Tool Maker A physical assessment.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- No current or future visa sponsorship requirements.
- CNC machining experience.
- EDM setup and programming experience.
- Tool and die manufacturing experience.
- Heat treating and tempering experience.
- Grinding, fitting, and lapping experience.
- Experience working directly with Engineering teams.
- Experience developing engineering models from sketches and drawings.
- Experience mentoring or training junior tool makers.
- Manufacturing experience involving complex tooling and precision components.
- Demonstrated employment stability and long‑term career progression.
The strongest candidates will possess a combination of advanced manual machining skills, tooling construction expertise, CNC and EDM experience, blueprint proficiency, and the ability to consistently maintain tight tolerances.
