Position: RN - Critical Care (PCCU) - Days

Position

Registered Nurse PCCU – Medical ICU (Open Heart Surgery and Neurosurgery Pods)

Location

Elmhurst, IL

Contract

Full‑Time: 36 hours per week

Hours

7 am – 7:30 pm, with every third weekend and rotating holiday track

Travel Requirement

May float to other adult inpatient units as needed.

Job Description
  • Develop a plan of care that identifies interventions to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes, systematically revises diagnosis, interventions, and outcomes as needed.
  • Provide patient assessment and collection of health data involving patient, family, and other healthcare providers.
  • Communicate plan of care to patient and family, respecting beliefs, and engage in mutual goal setting for optimal outcomes.
  • Communicate patient data to physician and interdisciplinary team as indicated.
  • Document patient health data, interventions, and communications.
  • Individualize patient and family teaching based on assessment to meet learning needs.
  • Assess patient cultural background, learning style, barriers, and modify teaching plan accordingly.
  • Provide teaching on disease management strategies, emergency care, and drug information when appropriate.
  • Identify community resources to support patient self‑management of disease.
  • Interact with and contribute to professional development of peers, students, and other health care providers.
  • Share knowledge, provide feedback, and contribute to an environment supportive of clinical education.
  • Assign or delegate tasks as needed.
  • Nurture a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.
  • Assist technical staff with injection of contrast, venipuncture, and administration of drugs, O₂ therapy, and IV management.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and nursing research.
  • Keep abreast of research and practice trends in wound/ostomy/skin care through professional networking, ongoing education, and self‑directed learning activities.
  • Support staff in using research and providing evidence‑based care.
  • Identify and conduct daily rounds of wound/ostomy/skin care patients, monitoring effectiveness of treatment plans.
  • Comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist in transporting acutely ill patients as needed.
Qualifications

Required Education and Licensure

  • Associate Degree or higher in Nursing.
  • For associate degree holders, must graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing within five years of position start date (effective September 1 2021).
  • Current RN diploma holders are grandfathered (prior to September 1 2021).
  • Active Illinois State Nursing License.

Required Certifications

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

Required Experience

  • At least 1 year of inpatient nursing experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Nursing.
  • 1 year ICU or ER experience.
  • 1 year radiology nursing experience.
  • 1 year wound/ostomy experience.
  • Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) or Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN).
