Domestic Ops Specialist - Cartage Dispatcher

Overview

Position Purpose To meet or exceed the expectations of our clients, each and every time we are of service to them. To respond quickly and proactively to challenges, in order to facilitate a quick and positive solution. To unselfishly perform any job related task with a positive attitude and a high degree of accuracy. To help fellow team members in your department as well as other departments when they may need it.

Tasks

• Assign local drivers to local routes for timely pick-up and deliveries.
• Use dispatch software and GPS to track shipments.
• Communicate with drivers, clients, and other logistics staff.
• Resolve issues like delays, weather, or maintenance problems.
• Manage paperwork, records, and compliance.
• Coordinate activities and cooperate with team members as required.
• Knowledge of surrounding geographic area to ensure effective and efficient routing. Ability to organize and prioritize time to balance conflicting demands related to due dates and dispatching.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers in fast-paced or stressful environments (interpersonal & telephone skills).
• Read and interpret road and street maps; keep organized and accurate records relating to dispatch and routing responsibilities.

• Strong communication (written/verbal) and stress resistance.
• Local dispatching/trucking experience (often required).
• Familiarity with local geography (e.g., Chicago area).
• Experience with dispatch systems, routing, and tracking software.

Education and Experience

• 2-7 years of dispatching and freight forwarding experience.
• Willing to work variable schedule, including overtime, weekends and holidays.
• Education:
  
  Industry related degree and/or certification.
